Adele to star in Ugly Betty

Updated 10:17am on 17 Apr 2009

Grammy Award winning singer Adele is to appear in the hit US TV show Ugly Betty, her representatives confirmed today.

The soulful chanteuse will appear as herself in the show but further details of the cameo role have yet to be announced.

In appearing in the Selma Hayek produced series, Adele will be following in the footsteps of other famous guests who have rubbed shoulders with the Ugly Betty cast including Victoria Beckham and Lindsay Lohan.

According to The Sun, Adele will be seen performing a song at a photoshoot in one of the episodes.

A spokesman for the star said today: "It is true, she will be appearing in Ugly Betty and she will be appearing as herself."

But Adele's representative declined to comment further on details of her guest appearance.

The move will be the latest coup for the singer who has already enjoyed success in the US.

Earlier this year she picked up two Grammy Awards - best female pop vocal performance for Chasing Pavements and best new artist.

Accepting the second of her gongs on the night, the Londoner said: "Thank you so much, I'm going to cry."

The singer will feature in a US Vogue photoshoot and will perform with soul signer Etta James at the Hollywood Bowl in June.
