Chelsea stars narrowly avoided a brawl outside a Soho nightclub during which a young woman was "bottled".

Witnesses said the punch-up erupted in the early hours of yesterday as the club closed.

One woman re por tedl y smashed a wine bottle over the other's head, apparently leaving her with blood pouring from a head wound. Earlier the victim had been partying as Chelsea stars, including goalscorer Didier Drogba and Michael Essien, celebrated their 2-1 FA Cup semi-final win over Arsenal.

Lampard, 30, was also there with rumoured new girlfriend Saskia Boxford, 23, who left 40 minutes before the midfielder.

One witness said: "Just after 4am the players came out and went off in cars. A few minutes after they had gone, a group of women left the club.

"There were some words exchanged. Then one girl came up with a wine bottle in her hand. She bottled the girl in the blue dress before driving off with her friends."

A Movida spokesman confirmed the injured victim had been at the club, but not the attacker. Police were called to the scene of the fight. After giving the victim first aid they drove her to hospital. Their inquiries are continuing.
