Susan Boyle's set for YouTube record with 100m hits

Updated 12:22pm on 21 Apr 2009

Britain's Got Talent sensation Susan Boyle is on course to be the most popular video clip ever on YouTube.

The singer, who wowed judges on the ITV show with Les Misérables song, I Dreamed A Dream, has notched up around 100m hits on the website - five times more than US president

Barack Obama's inauguration ceremony, which was viewed by 18.5m people. The 48-year-old from West Lothian, Scotland, is now just 18m views short of beating current YouTube record-holder Judson Laipply, whose Evolution Of Dance skit is the most watched of all time, despite the fact her clip has only been on the website for a week.

YouTube spokeswoman Julie Supan said: "She's really the world's singer right now."

But despite all the plaudits this week about Boyle's vocal capabilities, US pundits are still obsessing over her unconventional looks. Chat show host Rosie O'Donnell compared the singer to Shrek. She said: "Here is this freaky miss, a fat, ugly girl - like Shrek come to life - directing energy towards her soul."

Imagine the viewing figures when the wig comes off to reveal it was John Prescott all along!

Never heard of Rosie O'Donnell and hope I never do again. It is people like her who categorise others that cause hurt and harm in this world. Susan is a natural beauty, and is proud of it. Even if she wins I am sure she will not change and just be herself with her natural beauty shining from within. She does not need surgery or makeovers just being herself is enough.

Susan Boyle, has she got talent?

I certainly think so, as do millions of music fans around the globe.

What a truly wonderful voice!

Even here in China, she is causing quite a stir as hundreds of thousands of people checkout her amazing performance on the British talent show, thru the internet.

I wish her well and hope all her dreams come true, go on yersef hen!

Rosie O Donnell should look at herself.
It is not the looks but the voice and the heart that really count!!!

So I'm hardly surprised Americans are shallow. Not sure whether 'two-faced' comes into it or not as didn't hear the interview.
