Susan Boyle 'happier' after leaving the Priory

Updated 09:38am on 5 Jun 2009

Singing star Susan Boyle has left the Priory and was "much happier", her brother said today.

The Britain's Got Talent contestant was admitted to the London clinic following a breakdown after last week's final of the TV contest.

But today it emerged that Ms Boyle, 48, from West Lothian had been allowed to leave after five days.
She was staying in a flat in central London her brother Gerry, 55, told GMTV.

Glad to be out: Susan Boyle

He said: "She's much happier. She's seems a lot more like herself."

Mr Boyle said Susan had spoken to people who had assured her it "wasn't the end" for her singing career after finishing second in the contest.
He said: "Things are becoming clearer for her now.
"She's now beginning to believe that, 'yes indeed, I will be a singer'."

Boyle checked into the Priory clinic on Sunday after what her brother described as an anxiety attack.

Police were called to Boyle's hotel over the weekend after she began acting strangely.
In the space of eight weeks, Boyle went from the quiet life of a church volunteer in a small town in Scotland to global fame.

But she was beaten into second place by Essex dance outfit Diversity in a shock result last Saturday.

Reports claimed that following the programme, she shouted backstage "I hate this show" and threw a glass of water at a member of staff who tried to calm her.

TalkbackThames, which produces Britain's Got Talent, has said Boyle was "exhausted and emotionally drained" and was being offered "ongoing support".

Prime Minister Gordon Brown said he watched the show and had spoken to Morgan and fellow judge Simon Cowell to check on Boyle.

And Scotland's First Minister Alex Salmond wrote to the singer to congratulate her on her performance and tell her she was a "true winner".

Despite losing in the final, Boyle has been tipped to make millions from a singing career and bookies are already predicting a number one chart hit in America.

Mr Boyle said he would be happy for Simon Cowell to manage his sister's career.
He said: "He's been around the dancefloor a few times.

"I'm sure Simon will do a good job for her."

E Sullivan of London. Your comments are disgusting. Cold calculating person. Your words not mine. This comment obviousley describes yourself. Did I not hear Susan wish them all the best at the end of the show. I don't think I was watching the same live final as you. Selfish, untouchable, Mmmm you've lost it. 7 weeks under all the media pressure the pressures in general that go with the show, no wonder the poor woman was exhausted. Go Susuan go. A truely wonderful lady, with an equally wonderful voice. I can't wait for your first album to come out. I will definately buy it.

The comments from E Sullivan are dissgusting how is she trying to take away there limelight she is a very genuine person and if you missed it she was very gracious on the night of the final so how is she selfish and i also beleive she has a great future ahead over as do Diversity and i wish them the very best in life and hope they both go far so you are being really unkind to susan but im sure she will have plenty of other positive support for her.

Susan Boyle just entered a talant show ....... period.
It was the Media who whipped up a frenzy and put her on top of the world for seven weeks, and the bookies were quick in there as well.
On the night of the final you could see in her face the pressure ..... she sang well, thats all she wanted to do, it would of be different if she was only spotted by the press only days before hand, but the winners fate was always in the hand of the voters who may I say believe all what was in the papers.
Good luck in the future Susan, your still my winner and I will buy your C.Ds.
Best wishes from ,

I am sick to death of Susan Boyle trying to take the limelight off of Diversity. I must admit, once I had seen Diversity on the show, I preferred them to Susan but still liked her. Now I think she is just selfish, who thought she was untouchable, and can not accept she was beaten by a better act, and has acted in a way to make sure that she is the one being talked about instead of Diversity, who as athe winners should be. Susan, get over it. I am no longer a fan of Susan as I feel her behaviour as shown her not as the nice eccentric person at the auditions, but a cold calculating person.
