And the Strictly Come Dancing star gave her full backing to the British tennis hopefuls.

"I'm behind Andy Murray," she said.

"He's got his strongest chance and it feels like this could be his year.

"He is under a lot of pressure from the media but if he can endure the pressure he can perform extremely well.

"I don't see why he can't win - he's got the skill."

She said Swiss master Roger Federer was "always a good bet", adding: "It's about the solid players, people with the experience to perform under pressure."

She continued: "I would love to see Laura Robson do well.

"But I'm a huge Venus and Serena Williams fan. If they weren't playing it wouldn't be the same."

Dixon was taking on all-comers from the queue as it snaked alongside the Wimbledon golf course.

She said: "I'm not a great player but I have been getting a bit of coaching from Tim Henman.

"He's a true gentleman and very professional. I saw my game improve in just four short sessions.

"I'm quite a competitive person and a play a lot of sport."

She said Wimbledon was "intense, exciting, infectious and electrifying".

But she refused to answer questions on media speculation that she is to replace Arlene Phillips as a judge on BBC dance show Strictly, which she won in 2007.
