Kylie Minogue gives Dannii some X-tra help

Updated 13:50pm on 22 Jun 2009

Kylie Minogue has been grooming her younger sister Dannii for the next series of X Factor in a bid stop her from being outshone by the nation's sweetheart Cheryl Cole. Kylie's plan is to make Dannii show the kind of ease and effortless confidence that Cheryl exudes.

Sister act: Kylie Minogue plans to protect Dannii

The Aussie sisters have always been close, but Kylie, 41, has become fiercely protective of 37-year-old Dannii since Cheryl started to outshine her on the show after joining the panel last year.

This feeling was compounded when it was revealed last week that Cheryl was being paid a whopping £1.2 million to Dannii's £450,000.

A source said: "Dannii is already feeling a little diminished because of the pay difference, so her sister was determined to help her out. Kylie is a perfectionist and is giving Dannii her best pointers on how to smile, how best to bat off criticism and how to make her personality shine through.

"She is also giving Dannii access to her choreographers and backstage team to make sure Dannii's contestants perform to their peak during the finals. The crew will be able to give her fresh ideas and hopefully keep her ahead of the competition."

Auditions for this year's series started two weeks ago in Glasgow, although those hopefuls have now been told they must audition again.

Show bosses have now decided all auditions will take place in front of a live audience - like Britain's Got Talent - which means the judges have to return to Scotland for refilming.

Traditionally, hopefuls only had to sing in front of judges Dannii, Cheryl, Louis Walsh and Simon Cowell. But after the audience reaction to Hairy Angel and Priory patient Susan Boyle, Simon decided to shift the format.

Kylie's freaky eyebrow strikes again. Dannii's a stunner, as always.

Why isn't Dannii being paid much? I understand that Cheryl is being paid more cause she's so successful but £450,000 is that all?! I love Dannii but Cheryl is the best along with Simon! you can't beat them two! :)

They're both looking a bit...erm... enhanced these days. Kylie is looking a bit like Joan Rivers. Time to stop girls!

£1.2 million to Cherly Cole? That's a total joke!
What for exactly? She reads her comments after each performance anyway and she has no idea what good music is. Please get rid of her!

Finally! One wonders why Kylie had to wait until now to lend a helping hand to Danii, instead of, say, ten years ago! Perhaps the more mature star and elder sister --whose age and wear & tear are starting to show-- now feels safer and has dropped her fears that Danni might some day outshine her?
