Jimmy Carr goes a bit Killers crazy

Updated 14:46pm on 7 Jul 2009

Talk about being star struck! Jimmy Carr was like a screaming teenager last night while out with The Killers.

Killer mates: Jimmy Carr with Brandon Flowers and Ronnie Vannucci

The comedian warmed up the crowd at the band's Albert Hall gig, and then headed off to Mayfair's Hakkasan for dinner.

Carr couldn't wait to get on to his Twitter page and boast: “I may be made captain of the lucky club. I'm honoured. Killers are unbef***inglievable. Brandon thanked me from the stage. Whoop Whoop.” Woah! Calm down.

I was there on the Sun and found some of his jokes offensive to be honest, and I haven't got any kids - especially the Scotland joke (where I originally hail from)! Somebody did shout out from the choir seats that the rape joke wasn't funny and he said he would back off. If it said that it was suitable for ages 5 and up then it should have been just that, there was definitely an error of judgement as you don't have to swear to be funny so I think she was right to be a bit miffed. There were a few kids there, I took a photo of a couple outside who were dressed up like Brandon with the feathers, they looked fab. Anyway it was a top night, really enjoyed myself, can't wait for the dvd.

Lucy, you are right, I felt very priviledged to have gone and it was a cracking night, as I said it didn't spoil it. I've totally got over it, it's nothing to do with women's rights - men get raped too you know - it's just wasn't very appropriate that's all I'm saying and I am sure that he is a nice guy. I phoned the RAH and they said that they have had a number of complaints from parents, we were in a box and there were several children near us so if you were in standing you may not have noticed them. The RAH stated that the show was for ages 5 years and upwards and I'm sorry but you don't expect a load of effing and jeffing surely. You are also right about The Killers not choosing him though, I'm probably jealous that he went out for a meal with them afterwards!!! As for SClub7 (not that they have been a group for about 10 yrs), give my kids a bit of credit, they wouldn't be seen dead at a gig like that, not all kids are High School Musical. It would be great if more parents brought their kids up on proper bands as I am sure a fellow Killers fan like you will. Chill Pill taken.

i have to agree with j here, firstly julie you were lucky to get tickets for the gig as it was a complete sell out within minutes of gong on sale with ticket master, i to was 1 of the lucky ones that managed to get a ticket, ans have to say i didnt see 1 child there so im sorry but dont think that a 7 year old should have been there any way. i actually dont find jimmy carr particulary great but give the killers a break, its not like they wrote his script and doubt very much if they were back stage listening to his every word! they were more likely getting ready for 1 of there most important shows as of yet as it was being recorded for there dvd???? you no at the end of the day the ORGANIZERS and N0T the killers have to cater for what the large pre-portion of the audiance would like and not center a whole night on weather or not some1 decides to take there childran to a killers concert, i may be a little more understanding if you took them to a s club 7 concert and it happend, but to start throwing womans rights crap at the killers because of a warm up comidian is just ridiculus, why dont you just be thankful you seen the killers and take a chill pill!!!!!

J, of Scotland - I'm not totally stupid you know. I was informed that there was a Radio 1 DJ on and that was it, there was no mention of Jimmy Carr, the Royal Albert Hall didn't even know until the last minute as it was the promoters who booked him (and I telephoned Sun to check). It was a fantastic night and Jimmy Carr certainly didn't spoil it for me. I don't have a problem with him. The reason why I took my 2 daughters is that they know every song that The Killers have ever produced, and yes my eldest has been a massive fan since she was 4 when I saw them at my university and showed them my footage from my mobile. I promised her when a suitable gig came up that I would take them. I wasn't exactly lucky to go, I joined the fan club 2 years ago and get the opportunity to purchase pre-sale tickets which I was waiting to purchase at 8am on the dot. If you too want to be 'lucky' you could join the fan club too. As for them forgetting it, I can remember allsorts from when I was 7, and if my Mum and Dad took me to see the biggest band on the planet at the Royal Albert Hall and I had lots of photos, video oh and the fact that it is going to be on DVD then I wouldn't forget it.

well tbh if you know theres going to be a comedian there then obv there gonna be making rude jokes. and while i completely agree with you that those sort of jokes are completely unaccepatable be grateful that you atually got to go and see the Killers while some of us couldn't actually get the tickets. and i dont really kow why you are taking your 7 year old to a killers concert considering that they won't remember it in a few years. and also just because jimmy carr was chosen to go on before the killers it doesnt neccessarily mean that they agree with his jokes.

I went to see The Killers at the Royal Albert Hall on Sun eve with my 2 daughters aged 7 and 9, I was told it was suitable for ages 5 and up. You can only imagine my reaction when Jimmy Carr started on the rape jokes of which there were a few. I am also extremely surprised at The Killers befriending Jimmy Carr especially considering their stance on the sexual exploitation of women lending their song Goodnight, Travel Well to UNICEF, USAID and MTV Exit – MTV’s campaign to raise awareness and increase prevention of human trafficking and exploitation.

"We are deeply shocked and appalled that women and children are forced into such exploitative situations,” said The Killers, announcing the collaboration.....mmm but rape is ok then is it? Before anyone accuses me of being some kind of Jermaine Greer, I'm far from it, I love a laugh like everyone else and although he is not to my taste I haven't been offended by him in the past, perhaps he wasn't briefed about children being in the audience.

He was on the following night also surprisingly, not sure if he stuck to the same (read from a clipboard) script though. Also, not sure why he was banging on about it on Twitter saying how good they were, according to a friend who sat above him he spent most of the night texting on his mobile.

I absolutely love the band and have seen them many times and this was definitely one of their best, but leave the hangers on at home next time please.
