Hardeep Singh Kohli suspended from One Show after 'overstepping' mark
Updated 09:02am on 13 Jul 2009BBC presenter Hardeep Singh Kohli was suspended from the One Show after "stepping over the mark" with a female researcher, it was revealed today.
He has been removed from the weekday evening programme for six months after she lodged a complaint about his behaviour two months ago.

Inappropriate behaviour: Hardeep Singh Kohli
Kohli, 39, said he had apologised "unreservedly" for his behaviour after being hauled before bosses.
He said: "Nobody has accused me of sexual harassment. I recognise I over stepped the mark and have apologised unreservedly."
A BBC spokeswoman said: "Producers of The One Show received a complaint regarding Hardeep's behaviour towards a production colleague.
"She made no formal complaint and has acknowledged that One Show management took the issue extremely seriously.
"He was reprimanded and immediately apologised. He agreed to take some time away from the show to reflect on his behaviour. This leave of absence has been agreed to be six months."
Kohli, a Glasgow-born father-of-two, worked as a roving reporter for the show, hosted by Adrian Chiles and Christine Bleakley.
He has appeared in a number of other programmes, most recently Famous, Rich and Homeless, since being taken on as a trainee for the corporation in Scotland.
He previously directed the children's TV programme It'll Never Work.
Kohli's ban only applies to The One Show and not other BBC programmes, the corporation said.
It is the latest scandal to hit the One Show. In February, Carol Thatcher was fired after allegedly referring to a tennis player as a "Golliwog" off-air.

Bring back Hardeep. Why can't women these days deal with advances themselves! I am sure a good kick in the right place would have sorted things out. Pathetic running to Auntie to make a complaint. The One Show organisers are too PC for words. We have Hardeep's name, let's have the complainant's name too and be allowed to know what the compalint was about.

Dear oh dear. Aren't there are a lot of precious little petals at the BBC. Grow up!

Davis,
Carol Thatcher' s remark was towards a real person too......Jo Winfred Tsonga....doh. Hardeep we are told apologised, Carol was adamant she did nothing wrong. I am not one to judge, but I believe cases are judged case by case and we are only human, it's only God that can and will judge accordingly.

I no longer have a telly, because the bbc tries to wring the licence fee from us ,as they carry on like this.
P.S. Hardeep seems like a very nice bloke,is he the victim of racism?

I just cannot comprehend how Carol Thatcher could be dropped from the show. She made a comment in private. We ALL make inappropriate comments in private, that we wouldn't want anyone else to hear. Most of the time they are flippant comments that we don't really mean.

John, London I agree but is this not to be expected.
I believe the BBC sacked Carol for refusing to say sorry lets see if Hardeep says sorry and to do so would have to admit to what he has done otherwise an apology is worthless.

"NOBODY has accused me of sexual harassment."
Well obviously SOMEBODY felt whatever he did was "extremely serious", and made a complaint Some BODY (the BBC) has dismissed him from his post for 6 months. He's mentioned what he has NOT being accused of, but not what he actually did, got caught doing and got punished for. What I don't understand is if the complaint was 'informal' , why has the BBC 'formally' suspended him? And even then, 2 months after the incident and his confession/apology? Whilst I understand the need to protect the identity of innocent people, this still lacks transparency from the BBC.

It's nice to see that the production colleague complained and followed the correct procedure instead of putting up with his behaviour and suing for it in 6 months time....i hear the going rate is £40million?!

"Carol was adamant she did nothing wrong." Not true Rotimi.
Carol made the remark in private, and then immediately apologised in private when it was pointed out to her she shouldn't have said it.
The BBC thought that her apologising to the people who heard her wasn't good enough and wanted her to apologise in public - not having made the remark in public, Carol refused as she saw it as unnecessary grandstanding by the BBC.
However wrong Carol may have been for making her remark, it does seem uneven handling of the two situations - Carol sacked, Hardeep only temporarily suspended from one of many shows.

I gave up watching The One Show after the Carol Thatcher debacle. This is the BBC at its PC worst. It seems to me that there is a mole in there to spy on everyone and everything!
Pity they haven't got anything better to waste Licencepayers' money on, and just how many "bosses" was Hardeep hauled up before?

Picking up on comparisons with Thatcher case, it does smack of double standards and politicking. No one was going to complain to the BBC at the sacking of the daughter of an ex Tory prime minister - not so easy to sack one of the few ethnic minority presenters with a reasonably high profile.

Carol Thatcher's was an inappropriate off the cuff remark (a remark, singular) in a group, albeit private conversation. This bloke's got axed for his inappropriate behaviour, which would have been a series of actions over a period of time, but he'll be back in 6 months. So much for the BBC being fair!

How sad, he was an excellent addition to a very boring Adrian and Christine.......we loved his dry sense of humour.....he made the programme what it is - like many others, ie. Lucy Segal, Dom, Dan Snow etc......they are what makes the One Show...If we had to listen to Blakely and Childs for half an hour, it would be a dreadful programme. Please install him again...we need people like him on the shows.

This does make you realise how out-of-touch and imbalanced the bBC has become. It no longer operates in the real world of men and women but some type of stalinist/macarthy world, where thought and insinuation that does not correlate with policy is forbidden and punisnable. Such is theri monopoly on broadcasting, no one will ever challenge it and even if they did it would nmot be reported.
The organisation has policies that seem to alienate both it's traditional audeinces but also puts it at odds with new communities that see it as a sanitised government mouth piece.
BTW : The small 'b' was deliberate.

When you read stories like this and various law suits by women which can destroy innocent ex colleagues careers while they make multi-million pound claims for harassment, you can't help feeling that the workplace will return to segregation of men and women.
Some of my male friends have started to avoid attending one on one meetings with female colleagues or similar at work social events which is quite sad.
