Amy Winehouse bursts into tears on return home

Nobody likes returning to England after a holiday in the sun - but not too many people go so far as to burst into tears.

Look who's back: Amy's teary return to London

But, then, Amy Winehouse is different from the rest of us. The singer had an emotional homecoming this morning, after a controversial and troubled eight-month stay on the island of St Lucia.

Back to Blighty: an emotional Amy Winehouse at Gatwick

The Back To Black star, flew into Gatwick airport this morning, looking a lot healthier than we remember (which can only be a good thing). But, as she was escorted out of the terminal building and into a waiting car, a red-eyed Winehouse, 25, couldn't contain her relief to be home as the tears began to show.

Final stroll: Amy walked on the beach in St Lucia

The singer has been staying on the island since Christmas to record her third album. But her wild and drunken behaviour has harldy been music to the ears of the locals - many of who felt that she had outstayed her welcome.

A source said: "She's been banned from hotels, the bars don't want her there, and locals see her as a nuisance when she's drunk. Her friends have all left and gone back home, and her mum and dad couldn't stay in St Lucia with her as she was acting up too much." Amy probably thought it was best to come home before she was politely asked to leave the island. Before she left for the airport she took a goodbye stroll along the beach, with one of her stray mutts by her side.

We revealed a couple of weeks ago that Amy's fledgling record label - Lioness - was poised to release its first album, recorded by her backing singer Zalon. So perhaps she's back to do a spot of work!

She needs to sort out that 'tache. Did you see the pic in The Sun..? Was like Magnum P.I.

- Paul, Bromley

Know exactly how she feels, I felt like that after my return from my recent fabulous trip from Florida!

- Julie, London

I saw Amy yesterday at Cas en Bas beach in St Lucia, she was already drunk at 12.00. Amy will be missed by a lot of Lucians as she related so well with the young local kids.
A lot of locals who bad mouthed her did it for racial reasons, we have plenty of local musicians who misbehave just as badly.
My 12 year old son will miss her a lot

- Steve B, st lucia

why was she in tears? someone forgot to stock up the fridge with booze - waitrose is just around the corner Amy

Well, she does look a bit more healthy looking. She had to come back as she has a Magistrates Court appearance to face charges of assault on the 26th of July. Her problem is she could relapse into old behaviours around her haunts in London.

Her alcoholism and drug addiction could become full-blrown again if she gets 'bored', and decides to go out partying with her old drinking buddies. That is the nature of addictions, unfortunately. There is NO cure for addictions such as this - only abstinance, a day at a time!.

we all burst into tears when she returned too.

Blimey - wino looking vaguely attractive, who'd have thought it.

- Chris, london

Keith, she still looks an unkempt mess with those unsavory tattoos. But if that's your idea of sexy I'm wondering what you look like.

- N Zymes, Liverpool (UK)

"And she's still got those (dirty) pink shoes!"
Thet are cream ballet shoes, and she doesn't have them at Gatwick
