Any nightclub owner will tell you that a sure-fire way of causing mass hysteria on the dancefloor is to plop a Hollywood heartthrob in the middle of it.

Under your hat: Leonardo DiCaprio keeps a low profile

Just ask the people at Jalouse nightclub in Mayfair, who almost had a riot on their hands when Leonardo DiCaprio decided to drop in at the weekend.

The Hollywood actor, 34, was in danger of being swamped by over-excited female punters as he drank with pals and the club's owner Freddie Achom.

Safe and sound: Leo miraculously made it to his car in one piece

Our dancefloor spy told us: "Leonardo was sitting with Freddie in the VIP area, just relaxing and soaking up the atmosphere. The women were literally throwing themselves at him but Leo seemed more interested in having fun with his friends.

"Every time he got up to go anywhere there were about five girls who were acting like his shadow. There was security present at all times, so it never got out of hand."

But it was a different story when he decided to leave the club around 3am yesterday. Our spy said: "The group of girls realised that he was leaving, and they were so desperate to meet him that they raced out to try and find him."

Let's not forget that he's already got a girlfriend in the wonderful shape of model Bar Rafaelli.

PS: R& B singer Ne-Yo was in the club as well, but we're not sure whether anyone noticed.
