Life's a drag as John Barrowman stops London traffic

Updated 08:07am on 14 Jul 2009

John Barrowman is unrecognisable as dashing Captain Jack Harkness after slipping into a pair of high heels and a skimpy dress to promote his upcoming stint in La Cage aux Folles.

Dressed as a foxy redhead and draped in bling, Barrowman managed not to cause any traffic accidents as he posed for pictures in busy traffic near London Bridge.

Torchwood star Barrowman, who plays Captain Jack in the hit Doctor Who spin-off, will play the part of Albin/Zaza when he takes over from current leading man Roger Allam in the West End show on September 14.

He will continue in the role at the Playhouse Theatre until November 28.

Saw John Barrowman last night on his first night. Apart from one fit of giggles with his co-star when he was pretending to be a "real man" it was absolutely brilliant. Dances and songs were great - he got a standing ovation too. The male dancers were tremendous and sooooo funny!
May have to go again before he finishes his run.

A friend sent me a link to this page.

Am I the only person who hates Barrowman right now? Not only does he have to be gay (a crime against women that should be punnishable by death) but he has the nerve to have legs like that?

How come men get all the good things in life? Eye-lash's that take me almost 20 minutes to replicate, legs to die for and John Barrowman...

If Barrowman should go missing, I have no idea where he is.

Honest.

Mickinlondon - you should do some research before wasting your time writing essays and making yourself look stupid. La Cage aux Folles is about a DRAG club. John Barrowman is playing a man who dresses up in DRAG. So there is no discrimination at all here. He is playing a man playing a woman! Try getting your facts straight next time!

For gods sake Mick, James. It's La Cage Aux Folles. Perhaps it would help if you both rented the DVD, or even read the book, you'll then both be enlighted as to what the story is about. Never mind all this discrimination stuff and getting proper jobs, it's a musical for gods sake, please keep some sense of reality. John Barrowman is a fantastic, well established musical actor, and this role is ideal for him. Nothing else matters really, Londoners are so quick to re-act in a negative way to anything.

This is an act of sexual discrimination; the Black and White Minstrels were banned for using white men as black men; this was called racial discrimination etc; as black men could play real black men, instead of white men being blacked up to look black etc.

We also have men dressed as women in pantomimes, and women dressed as boys as well; this is also sexual discrimination, as boys can play boy parts, and women can play women parts etc.

John Barrowman; should take off his female clothes and get a male acting role; and leave the female stuff for female actresses to do; he is depriving a woman of a job she is far better equipped to do than he is.

Or is it only discrimination with black and white minstrels; I have often wondered why pantomimes and drag acts are still allowed in the UK, but not Minstrel Shows.

No wonder so many people are confused about their sexuality these days; we have women wearing trousers and men wearing frocks.

Can’t you get a proper job John?

Good Afternoon James of London and Alan of Ilford.

I actually once worked for Danny La Rue; so I do know a little about ‘’ Drag Acts and Clubs’’ etc.

If you read between the lines; you will see that I was being sarcastic in a London type of way. You are probably both to young to remember London Humour; or even London Music Halls where anything goes was normal etc.

My sarcastic post was aimed at the PC brigade in general; they were the ones that got the black and white minstrels banned etc; yet did nothing about the other types of impersonation shows and acts etc.

There is more than one way to skin a cat they say, and I agree with that train of thought; hence on public forums you have to manipulate your posts to cover most things, without the post being banned before its even posted etc; free speech is a thing of the past; but with creative thinking, you can still skin any cat with words etc.

See you at the next Rocky Horror Show OK………Mick.
