Peter Andre vows to come out of marriage 'a better man'

Updated 09:00am on 3 Aug 2009

Peter Andre confessed today he had cried himself to sleep following the break-up of his marriage to Katie Price but insisted he would come out of it "a better man".

The 36-year-old singer said he was not ready to enter a new relationship despite reports of his estranged wife cavorting with a string of men since the split, including a cage fighter.

"I wish I was stronger. The one thing about Katie is that she can just move on. I can't do that. Well, not yet anyway," he told News Of The World's magazine Fabulous.

Insisting he had always been faithful to Price, aka glamour model Jordan, Andre said: "I never cheated on her, from the moment that I met her until, well, I still haven't."

He also revealed he had not told his children, Junior, four, Princess, two, and stepson Harvey, seven, that his three-and-a-half-year marriage to their mother was over, because he wanted to protect them.

"The kids don't actually know we've split up. When I leave them with Katie, I just say that Daddy has to go to work so I can buy them toys. And when Katie hands them over to me, I just tell them Mummy is working," he said.

"I know I have to tell them the truth at some point, but it feels a bit like I want them to believe in Father Christmas that little bit longer."

The Australian pop star recalled breaking down while on a shopping trip after being hit with the "realisation that the family unit was smashed to pieces".

"It all just suddenly hit me in the Ikea car park. I had to go home, and that night I cried myself to sleep."

Andre, who met Price on ITV1's I'm A Celebrity ... Get Me Out Of Here! in 2004, added: "I'm still in a tunnel and can't see the light yet, but I know it's there. I know I'll get there and come out a stronger man - a better man."

This week, the singer was awarded substantial undisclosed libel damages over a newspaper claim that he made inappropriate sexual advances to Jordan lookalike Shira Jones while still with his wife.

Boy are you after simpathy"cried myself to sleep"what a load of rubbish. You chose to leave her and when you get to that stage you are glad to get rid of her and get on with your life.
You have lost a lavish lifestyle and now have to earn your keep which i am sure will not be easy especially as you have 3 children to look after. Money runs out very fast once lawyers are involved.
Pete do not get angry get smart it pays in the end.

I´ve been down the same trail as you, Peter, and it was rough. But you WILL survive and you WILL come out of it stronger and a better person. Time is the great healer, they say, and I found that to be true. Stick with it, you´re doing OK so far.
PS: Don´t let her have her own way with the kids, just because she´s the mother. If you want custody, go for it. I wish I had.

A small but desperate cry,
Who on earth are these people and what have they done? I know their names. Katie Price has two names (Jordan), I know that too. I know they have been married, I know they are heading for divorce.
But they are in every newspaper, all the time; even the broadsheets. And I see their travails regularly on TV. But why? Even having looked them up I am not really much the wiser.
Neither of them is particularly attractive, when I hear them speak they can barely string a sentence together and yet the whole nation seems besotted with them.
I promise you this is not a "grumpy old man" rant for the sake of it. I can understand "Posh and Becks", indeed I can even have a sneaking slight admiration for them.
But these two leave me utterly bewildered. Who are they?!!

Dear Peter

Millions of couples have been through what is happening to you. Move on, get over her and find happiness like the rest of us, and stop using your Z-list celeb status to point score. Grow up man and get a backbone!
