Jack Tweed: I'm drinking to cope with losing Jade

Updated 09:34am on 6 Aug 2009

Jade Goody's widower Jack Tweed admitted he has hit the bottle as he struggles to cope with the death of his wife.

Trying to forget: Jack Tweed

Clutching a bottle of cider, Tweed, 22, said drinking alcohol made him "forget about everything" and added that he did not like the feeling of being sober.

He said: "I don't really know how I'm bearing up at the moment. I'm drinking quite a lot, which I shouldn't be.

"I shouldn't be saying it but I don't want to lie to anyone and I am drinking quite a lot and I've got to go and see someone or I've got to stop.

"It makes me forget about everything when I have a drink. I don't like the feeling when I'm not drinking.

"It's not a nice feeling because I sit there and think about Jade non-stop."

Tweed, of Buckhurst Hill, Essex, was speaking at the launch of the Nokia Skate Almighty event on London's South Bank last night.

He married reality television star Goody shortly before her death from cancer.

He was freed from prison in May after serving half of a 12-week sentence imposed in April for assaulting a taxi driver.

Well as he is not making the pagers of newspaper or mags he has to "invent" an intersting story to get into the news.

Get a job, it might take your mind off the drink. I dont feel any sympathy for him. And I agree with some poeple that believe he would do anything to keep being in the papers.

Unfortunately, we will be hearing from the Leech for many years to come if newspapers gives him printing space.

I think the guy deserves a break . At the end of the day he is young and sitting at home on his own moping is not gonna bring Jade back , what is he supposed to do die with her ? ...Also people can be so quick to make comment , but Ive seen some one I love die of cancer before their time and it is horrendous ..it must have taken extreme guts to be so young and yet made Jades dream come true , and then to sit and watch her die in front of his eyes..... leave the guy alone , he's been through more in his 21 years than most people ever doin a lifetime ..

What a dope. He was a total nothing even when Jade was alive. Now that she is dead he is even less interesting. He will be lying in the gutter drunkenly trading on her name until he dies. Unless he gets a grip of course, along with a job and some self respect. Unlikely I think.

Remind me, the natural father got custody of the kids didn't he? If they remain in the care of the jail bird they have no hope in life. Perhaps Mr Tweedy might like an assisted death if his life has become so unbearable.

This is a shocking development. Before Jade's death, not only had Tweed never touched a drop of alcohol, but he was the Essex Temperance League's celebrity pin-up. In fact, I've heard rumours that the assault for which he was convicted was based on a tragic misunderstanding - his victim accused him of being drunk, which to a lifelong teetotaller like Tweed was about as mortal as insults get.
