Robbie Williams is to appear on the new series of X Factor, it was confirmed today.

A statement on the singer's website said details of his involvement were still being worked out, but it was reported yesterday he would give masterclasses to contestants in the later stages of the show, which returns to ITV1 later this month.

Last year, X Factor mentors included Williams's old Take That colleagues Gary Barlow and Mark Owen, as well as R'n'B star Beyonce.

Following newspaper reports of his involvement, the statement on his website said: "We're very excited to tell you that this is true!

"Details are still being finalised so make sure you stay tuned for further announcements. As soon as we're able to tell you more we'll let you know right here."

Last week the singer announced his first album in three years - Reality Killed The Video Star, which will be released in November.
