Gary Lineker's new father-in-law today claimed he was heartbroken after missing his daughter's wedding to the former soccer ace because of a family rift.

Roy Bux said he only found out about the event in Italy when he read about it in the newspapers yesterday.

Just married: Gary Lineker and wife Danielle Bux

Match Of The Day host Lineker, 48, married Danielle Bux, 30, on Tuesday in a secret low-key £400 service, followed by a night at a luxury hotel on the Amalfi coast. They tied the knot with just two witnesses and celebrated last night with a reception for family and friends.

But Mr Bux, 54, a shopworker from Cardiff, today reportedly claimed he was left off the guest list after falling out with his daughter.

The lingerie model is said to have been furious after her father let slip to the media she was engaged to Lineker, who is said to be worth about £30m.

Mr Bux, who is divorced from Danielle's mother, said: “I love Danielle to bits and would do anything for her. A daughter's wedding is one of the most important days in any father's life. I am heartbroken. If I had gone Danielle would have been unhappy. I wish her and Gary all the very best.”

The pair met on a blind date in 2007, a year after the former Spurs star had got divorced from Michelle, his wife of nearly 20 years. The new couple looked thrilled in their official wedding photograph, which was taken in Ravello after their blessing.

How can you have a blind date with Gary Lineker?

- Dan Dan, Sydney

Best of luck to them both. A fresh start for Linekar but a woman 20 years his junior could present problems.

- Dhan Raj, Basildon

So, they guy falls out with his daughter because he shot his mouth off about her private life, and now he seems to be whining publically about being left uninvited from her wedding reception. What does he not get?

- Escobar-Alop-Lop, Camden County

Typical Dads eh! Always spilling the beans. She was being a bit over dramatic. She should know that being in the medias eye with Lineker is part of the package. Its not like it was a friend, this was her Dad...

- Cj, London

Why does every news report quote Lineker as having £30 million ? danielle already has a few million of her own and she is only 30, 18 years youmger than Gary. But what they also fail to mneion, is that half of his fortune is now HERS, so she is potentially richer than he is !

- Keith Price, Luton England

Its sad when family rifts happen. Dont worry Dad, what goes around comes back around.
