Susan Boyle made her live performing US debut in front of 25m viewers when she received a standing ovation on America's Got Talent.

Triumph: Susan Boyle sings on American TV last night
The 48-year-old spinster from West Lothian, Scotland, wowed the audience and viewers with her versions of the Rolling Stones' hit Wild Horses and I Dreamed A Dream from Les Mis — the song she sang in the audition video that made her famous.

Blown away: judges Piers Morgan, Sharon Osbourne and David Hasselhoff
Today the LA Times demanded she should “no longer be considered a sideshow” as she had an ability to “turn even a song about a drugs overdose into something worthy of church”.

Give me Susan Boyle any day, over these pretentious, egotistical "divas" who have entourages left right and centre who'll pick up their gum, 70 dressing rooms for a 1/2 TV interview etc, etc. Susan Boyle is humble, can sing and I wish her luck and enjoy every minute of it.

Freak show which will end in tears, in my humble opinion.

Keith how wrong you are this album will be brought by anyone who enjoy music that you can hear every word being sung. Not shouted.

Quite frankly Keith Price who cares what young people will or will not touch or play? If Vera Lynn's cd was bought by the grannies & got to the top of the charts then that shows where the buying power really is. Rock on Susan is what I say.

What a voice! I don't think it will matter if young people do not buy her work; there are more old grannies with money that little girls with money. I think she is beautiful and it is such a refreshing change to hear the music without all the sexual innuendos and hoochie coochie. She sings like an angel. I will buy her album.

Absolutely wonderful. What a blessing and honor to hear Susan sing. Keep up the good work. I can't hear enough of her music. Far surpassing any of the young singers I've heard recently. Thanks Susan, hope to see you live in the states someday. God bless.

Raw and tender. Janis Joplin in the making?
A talent. Not something manufactured. Not a brand, nor something for "young people" who no longer define cool, nor justify their own carbon footprint .
She can transcend all boundaries so that rules get rewritten.
Let's hope Kanye interrupts her acceptance speech at next year's MTV awards!

I think you've got to consider the significance of Wild Horses as a statement she's making to the world. She's back, and wants to get on and enjoy. Certainly, she probably could have selected a number with more impact and that suited her voice more. That takes courage and confidence.

But that's all she wants Keith Price. -Remember, her dream was just to be a pro singer, -not a star.

Our lovely Lady Susan certainly DID blow us away with her stunning rendition of Wild Horses. We in America are so grateful for Susan's honoring us with her presence and hope we can continue to show her the wonderful, warm welcome she has received so far and that she will feel how much she is loved from all over this land! Thank you for this nice article.

More shouting than singing, sadly. The grannies will buy her album like they bought Vera Lynn's, but young people wont touch it or even play it
