Keisha Buchanan quits Sugababes to go solo

The last original member of all-girl-group the Sugababes left the band, it was revealed.

Keisha Buchanan, 24, will now launch a solo career, a statement from the group confirmed.

Leaving: Keisha Buchanan (above) will be replaced by the UK's Eurovision Song Contest singer Jade Ewen.

A statement on the band's website read: "The current line-up of the Sugababes has disbanded.

"Heidi Range and Amelle Berrabah will continue as the Sugababes and will be joined by new member Jade Ewen.

"They release their album Sweet 7 on November 23 through Island Records.

"Keisha Buchanan will continue to record for Island Records as a solo artist."

The group have recently been subject of media speculation after Amelle Berrabah reportedly went missing two weeks ago.

Buchanan defended herself against reports she was the troublemaker of the band.

A report in The Sun claimed bandmate Berrabah was missing following a disagreement with Buchanan after she failed to perform with her and Heidi Range at London's Movida.

But Buchanan, 24, tweeted: "I may come across as a hard nut sometimes, but I'm actually really sensitive and it destroys me to think people see me as the longest standing member and assume that I'm the b***h who causes people to walk, and it's totally untrue and unfair."

The group was formed in 1998 by original members Buchanan, Mutya Buena and Siobhan Donaghy.

Range replaced Donaghy in 2001 and in 2005 Buena was replaced by Berrabah.

well at least keisha has recieved a nice payout and quite frankly it serves her right. its called karma. when Heidi joined the group keisha and mutya were positively horrible to her and the record company had to step in and warn them both as they had already outsted the previous member siobhan. so now keisha is on the receiving end of behaviour she knows how to dish out. Also there is nothing wrong the group carrying on with using the sugabsbes name - it doesn't belong to keisha or anyone and new songs can be wriiten for the new line up. I wish them luck - at least these three look like they smile and are nice young women.

PERHAPS KEISHA WANTS TO GO SOLO AFTER ALL THESE YEARS AS A MEMBER OF THE SUGABABES, THIS IS INSEVITABLE SOMETIME, BUT LAST WEEK WE READ THAT AMMELLE LEFT THE BAND. I THINK AMMELLE, AS THE "NEW GIRL" SHOULD REMAIN FOR SOME TIME IN THE BAND BEFORE DEPARTING. GOOD LUCK KEISHA, IN THE FUTURE, AND MAY GOD BLESS YOU.

i think that its all a lowd of rubbish. a publisity stunt and if its not well we dont know ot went on ..i think ameel should leav she already has a solo carreerr

- Chloe Edwards, dorset england

I think that they should disband now. Its ridiculous to keep changing the line up.

It is only a matter of time before Keisha is dropped for the label.

What's this "band"?

Do they play their own instruments?
Have they been up and down the M1 in a rusty transit, paying their dues at various toilet venues?

Only then can they be called a "band".

First of all, Keisha was ousted she didnt quit. Why should Keisha be pushed out simply because the new kid on the block aka Amelle now wishes to be the focal and vocal l member of the group? What is even more sad is the fact that the group will continue under the Sugarbabes banner when no original member of the group is in it? Unfortunately for Keisha, she will not get the exposure necessary to have a successful solo artist and such I predict she will be dropped from Island and then fade into the background.

Oh, and if 24 is getting on a bit Keith....you must be positively ancient!

Joanna Carling - you are spot on there!

Well, she is getting on a bit. She was never as good as Mutya.

Not raeally the sugababes anymore, is it? Reminds me of Trigger from only Fools and Horses when he said he had used the same broom for 10 years and he only had to change the handle 3 times and the head 4...

- Joanna Carling, london england

So thats the last we will ever hear from her then!
