Cheryl Cole: Ashley still gives me butterflies but I don't trust him

Updated 10:39am on 5 Oct 2009

Cheryl Cole said she still felt butterflies over husband Ashley - but admitted she did not trust him.

Married: Ashley and Cheryl Cole

The Girls Aloud singer and X Factor judge said the only people she trusted were her parents, adding: "But you always hold that 20% back for yourself.

"I think it's key for your own sanity. You've got to protect yourself."

Asked about her footballer husband's alleged infidelity, Cole told Elle magazine: "I know from a perspective how it looks but it's not like that. And I'm not a stupid girl.

"I'm not one of those girls who can't see things for what they are.

"I've been out with idiots in the past. Ashley's such a nice guy. I still get the butterflies."

The Geordie star, 26, said marriages had to be worked at and were not "rose-petalled paths that you skip down".

She added: "Love is real and the feelings of love are real. But the thought that everything is going to be rosy and there's never going to obstacles that come in your way, that there is never going to be any testing in life, I'd hate that. I want to experience life. I want to experience the bad to know what the good is."

Cole also said she could not wait to have children.

"Even if all this went tomorrow and I just had my family and my kids and my husband and my parents, I'm happy," she said.

Her sentiments about a lack of trust echoed her claims in yesterday's Sunday Times magazine.

She said: "I've come to the conclusion that I don't trust anybody in life except my mother and my dogs.

"I'm scared to let people know how much they mean to me, and it's scary that you can love a small hairy thing so much."

Her mother, Joan, often stays at the Coles' Surrey home, cooking and providing emotional support when needed.

After growing up on a council estate in Heaton, Newcastle, Cole dreamed of being a ballerina as a child.

She shot to fame when she won her place in Girls Aloud on ITV's Popstars: the Rivals in 2002.

Cheryl cole is the business, ashley cole is the business, they are people, they do people things like Mistakes, forgive and forget, poo, fart etc like me and you. you lot are the ones who make them inhuman by making all these speculations, men cheat everyday, women cheat everyday so whats the big deal. they are people not machines hence we can not analyse when systems mulfunction an expect to find reasons beyond the normal human behaviour. another typical example of how all of this is all normal is the huge public interest this situation has managed to accumulate.

I love cheryl. I think shes lovely. Yeah she hit the toilet attendant but she was drunk. Everyone can make mistakes. She apologized. The only reason everyone is making a huge deal out of it is because shes famous. If it was some other person nobody would care. I think that is she loves ashley then its up to her what she does with him. I think that its unfair to judge her she hasnt had a easy life and she gets critizised everyday about her weight. I know how hard it is to keep on weight i have the same problem as her and its difficult. She isnt naturally thin i know. But she is now. She is a really sweet person who loves and enjoys what she does in life and thats what i love about her. She loves singing and music. I do to. she is a really good role model and she is entitled to make mistakes. We all are. Everyone makes mistakes but everyones mistakes aren't printed all over the papers/magazines. She has to deal with it everytime another story comes out about her personal life.
I thinks she is a good person and she shouldnt be judged on the past.

cheryl cole isnt or wasnt just with him for the money, thats such a harsh assumption. she isnt earning as much as him. but shes earning enough without him. and i think she is truley amazing. with the new single. and she is such a good influence to all teenage girls who have a dream.

I feel for Cheryl in everyway i was with someone for 6 years and devoted my life to him had 2 children with him only to find he had been cheating on me for 4 of those years and has also had another child with her, i find it very hard to trust anyman, i am now with a lovely man and have had a child with him but i 2 dont trust him 100% i will always find it hard to trust him, but without trust there aint no relationship, so does that mean we should forever be on our own??? I hope Cheryl can get past her trusting phase and can learn to trust him, I hope she can move on and forget the past Cheryl is a lovely woman and i admire her alot.

Cheryl says its scary how much you can love a small hairy thing, to whom or what man is she referring, Ashley is not hairy to look at as far as the photos look.

Her true qualities were shown after her attack on Nightclub Toilet attendant. I have no sympathy for her at all, she loves the trappings of being with him & she wanted to cleanse the public image of her, by marrying him.. I won't forget what she did and the X factor, fancy dresses and dire songs won't change it!

i had to laugh at Rsaviour's comments. He obviously does not really know about the 'junk' magazines he refers to as he would know that Take a Break is aimed at mature women who may be working mums and has hardly any celeb gossip at all.
Funny comment though...........................

She's a great role model for the kids of today, assuming of course you want your children to grow up to believe it's right to attack random members of the public for trying to do their job.

much as i also think cheryl is more chav than the sophisticated 'lady' she tries to portray (i think we should move on from the toilet attendant incident now), she has had to eat a lot of humble pie of late - her so called 'darling hubby' has humiliated her and despite her protestations of 'i will leave him if he cheats' etc, she has found that is easier said than done when you love someone (although why she loves that idiot is anyones guess). She has learnt some harsh lessons.

@Mickinlondon: Are you for real? Cheryl does not earn or have more money than Ashley. Girls Aloud are no Destiny's Child ie International, and the only one making vast sums of money from the X factor is Simon Cowell.

Believe me, she is only with Ashley for the money and lifestyle and has shown that she needs him more than he needs her. Please don't believe the hype!

Or maybe, she is a good example of a celebrity actually working at their marriage instead of divorcing at the first sign of a problem. If someone betrays you then it takes a very long time to get back to 100%. It doesn't mean you don't love them or should split up with them. It means you have the guts to work at it.

She doesn't trust him, but wants to have children with him! She obviously is a stupid girl. Or maybe not, as someone else has pointed out - Ashley obviously earns more than her. Perhaps its the money that make her have butterflies in her stomach.

Can never see her in the media without remembering that really nasty attack on the toilet attendant. It shows that beauty is only skin deep, and in all walks of life, the way a person behaves says more about them than a nice hair do their general appearance or expensive clothes.

"Nice young lady"?? Well, she has a lovely pair of fists. Every saccharine "Aw, Cheryl pet, she's lovely, she is" must be like another smack in the face for the toilet attendant she attacked, simply for having the temerity to do her job.
Cheryl "Cole" is a nasty, gobby little thug whose joke of a marriage seems to serve no other purpose than for her to bleat on about how little she trusts the bloke that she laughingly calls her husband.

All relationships must be based on trust so if you don't trust him, why are you still with him?

They say you never really know what you had, till you lose it?

But going from appearances only; Cheryl Cole is a nice young lady, and talented; Ashley will regret losing her, if that ever happens, which I doubt.

In my opinion; Ashley knows his wife is not after his fame or money; she probably has more than he has, and she will continue to earn all her life etc; so it seems to me that she is with him because she really loves him; and the love of a true loving woman; is priceless.

So for these reasons alone; Ashley would be the biggest fool of all time to lose his wife Cheryl.

Good luck to them both, they will grow old together in my opinion, as a father and grandfather with some vast experience of life's ups and downs.
