One Show's star Adrian Chiles has £4m quickie divorce
London LiteUpdated 13:18pm on 13 Oct 2009
BBC TV presenter Adrian Chiles's 11-year marriage to Radio 4's Jane Garvey ended in a quickie divorce today, four months after the couple parted.
Woman's Hour presenter Miss Garvey is likely to get a share of The One Show host's £4m fortune as part of the settlement, after citing his “unreasonable behaviour”.

Divorced: Adrian Chiles and Jane Garvey ended their relationship
Chiles is one of the most popular presenters on the BBC — also hosting Match Of The Day 2 and The Apprentice spin-off You're Fired! — and reportedly earns £1m a year.
Miss Garvey, 45, is expected to stay in the £1.34m family home in Shepherd's Bush, west London, with their daughters Evelyn, eight, and Sian, five. The couple are expected to share custody of the girls.
At the High Court in London, Chiles and Miss Garvey were granted a decree nisi which will be finalised in six weeks.Shortly after they announced their split in June, Chiles was seen with Christine Bleakley, his co-host on The One Show, on a number of social outings, fuelling speculation they were a couple.
It came after Belfast stunner Miss Bleakley, 29, split up with her businessman boyfriend of three years, Mark Beirne, earlier this year.
Mr Beirne later claimed that Brummie Chiles, 41, had been “the third person” in their relationship as it broke down.
Chiles was seen going into Miss Bleakley's flat last summer but he rubbished claims they were seeing each other. Both insist they are just friends.

The one show is truly awful! A total waste of television time. last night was extended to bring us a snow report? AAAAAHHH! I know its snowing BBC! I live in one of the worst hit areas, I don't want to watch it 24/7 on my tv! Anybody watching the one show from another country must look at chiles and bleakely and think...Is this the best they have? What a waste of our fee.

1million a year . I need to get a job at the BBC, then i could afford the £142.50 rip off tv licence fee. No wonder the BBC put the licence fee up every year to pay for their wages. The uk people are getting ripped off with this so called TV LICENCE FEE.

Have only to hear the aweful music at 7pm heralding the start of The One Show and we all dive for the remote to switch off...It is a shocking programme and like some of your other writers, it does not take 2 of them to present such rubbish! but the BBC is so good at wasting our money isn't it?

Very surprised at all these negative comments, he is my favourite BBC presenter, particularly for MOTD 2 and Christine is lovely - Keep up the good work Adrian, I think you're great!

Guys, we've got to leave Chiles on The One Show.
If he goes they're bound to bring in Mylene Klass or John Barrowman to replace him - now that would be something to moan about !!

Chiles is out of his depth in every programme he presents. He is inarticulate and has to have two attempts at every sentence he utters - this is very annoying.
I have absolutely no clue how someone so incompetent manages to get in front of a BBC (even ITV) camera.

This pudding faced little twit has paid 4m to get divorced. Now you know where the licence money goes. You could sack all BBC presenters and replace them with cheaper ones and they would not be missed.

He comes across as a first class prat. He should stick to regional TV. On second thoughts why inflict him on anyone?

Other posters absolutely right - This man proves that you can earn a fortune by being annoying, incompetent and talentless. He is awful and the One Show is a total joke!

I million a year and it takes 2 of them to complete one sentence.
Save our licence fee, it only takes one person to present the show and it can`t be that hard to do on your own.

That's why they call London the divorce capital of the world. She has a job of her own, why's she getting £4m from her ex? If it's exclusively for the children, that's only fair, but if it's for her, then why are women fighting for equal pay, when this sends the message that we can't pay for ourselves?

So, for 11 years, Mrs Chiles has not bothered to become known as 'Mrs Chiles', prefering to remain Miss Garvey! No wonder the couple have divorced. Silly woman! Why did she bother to get married in the first place?
Oh, yes, he's a plonker!

"The One Show" is virtually unwatchable. Chiles and Bleakley really define "lowest common denominator" journalism. If he genuinely is paid (I shall not say "earns") £1M per year, it is time to repeal the licence fee!

Yet another example of why the licence fee should be abolished. Only a state subsidised company could pay this man £1 million a year for looking miserable on our screens. What exactly is his talent?

The One Show is meaninglesss and awful. Adrian Chiles has little talent. When Chiles and Bleakley's silly animated faces appear at 7pm I immediately switch off. They come across a couple of airheads and his looks are certainly not going to make women mad with desire. It's incredible that the licence fee is going towards producing this sort of rubbish. Come on BBC surely you can do better than this!

If I had to pay anything like a million to divorce any woman; I would stay married and spend it happily.
In fact if any woman offered me a million; I would marry her right now; who cares what she looks like, or even nags like.

"Chiles is one of the most popular presenters on the BBC — ..."
Among the BBC hirearchcy apparently, if the quoted annual earnings figure is to be believed. I caught the "One Show" last night, and our brave Brummie was made to look decidedly lightweight, as was his co-presenter, by the inimitable Clive James who appeared not even to break sweat until the appearance of a sand lizard towards the end of the programme.
