Cheryl Cole: I won’t be miming but I will not be live

Cheryl Cole has hit back at critics after she was attacked for not planning to sing live on Saturday's X Factor show.

The Girls Aloud star will pre-record a performance of her debut solo single Fight For This Love, but insists she doesn't know what all the fuss is about.

Pre-recording live performances is nothing new on the show — Girls Aloud, Take That and Miley Cyrus all did it last year.

Pre-recorded: Cheryl Cole will sing her new solo single

Cheryl, 26, told a pal: “I really don't see the problem. I will be singing live. I just won't have time to get changed and get prepared for the performance, and be a judge on the show. It would be too hectic.”

X Factor Blog: Cheryl Cole should set an example and sing live

Of course, there might be something to be said for pre-recorded performances — Robbie Williams sang live on Sunday's show, and look where it got him.

He is trailing a long way behind Alexandra Burke in the singles chart this week, and she is said to have mimed her performance on the same programme.

Her single Bad Boys, with Flo Rider, is outselling Robbie's Bodies two to one in the midweek charts.

X Factor bosses confirmed that they didn't think Cheryl would have time to flit between her seat on the panel to the stage in time, so encouraged her to pre-record.

Yesterday the Geordie singer admitted she was “absolutely terrified” about her solo debut, adding: “The nerves started weeks ago. It's really here and happening.

“I love performing but I've sat for weeks judging people and now I'm putting myself out there to be judged.”

Chez also spoke of her desire to become the new Simon Cowell, spotting talent and then helping them become stars.

She said: “Developing talent — I love it. I love the buzz, it's like a rush. It's like what my team say when we come off from a Girls Aloud performance.

“Some have watery eyes if we've had a good one and are like, Oh my God, I was so proud of you'. I didn't really get it until I did the show and now I totally get it, to the point where I think this is where I want to go.”

I complately agree that she cannont sing. Live or not she is awful even without sound. Anyone can sit there and tell someone if they sound good or rubbish or not, its not really anything special. She cant give proper critism because she does not know how to look for actual flaws in a performace. She also is discustingly skinny. She didnt write the lyrics herself either. Her quote saying that from sitting down then running on stage would have been hectic..so what? I think the public would have rathered her try her best singing live with all the work she had to do beforehand than fake her way through the performance making herself out to be flawless! Her dancing wasnt the best either, she just looks pretty and thats not enough.

- Lany, Northern Ireland

for god sake, will everyone leave Cheryl Cole alone! Does no one have anything better to do than criticise her?! she was brilliant on sunday night when she sang her new single and the dance moves and set welll just brilliant. Everyone forgets that she is part of a band with four other girls so starting on her own will be strange and nerve racking and to sing on her own on x factor was so brave! For many young girls like my self cheryl is an inspiration and everyone wants to be her! she is georgeous and such a nice person and becoming a judge on the x factor has proved that! I cant wait till her album comes out and will be definatly be buying it! why do people have to be soooo horrible you only wish you had her fame and her money. Love you Cheryl xxxxxxx

- Rebecca, Hessle England

Cheryl Cole singing, oohhh how painful, gets away with absolute murder!
Also, how an earth can she judge, she has very little experience,NO talent atall and the contestants she 'judges' all CAN actually sing, wheres the sense in that?am i missing something here?
So many people struggling in this resession. There are many people in this country with no talent atall,so why does this VERY untalented woman get a coin? Its a discrace.

- Steve Wisbey, march cambridgeshire

I think Cheryl Cole even mimed in her pre recorded song.
We hardly got a close up of her, the mike was so close to her face so to hide her mistakes, its all a sham.
Didn't think she was all that good anyway.
Obviously Cowell and Minogue were gonna sing her praises, wonder what they really thought of her performance.
When Witney Houston sang, it was live, we saw loads of close ups of her.

- Pete, maldon england

Who really cares if she sings lve or not...... Their are more thngs happening in the world at the moment than can she sing or dance or not. SHe is what she is a pretty girl who got lucky..

I'm a singer songwriter it's what I do, ask my to perform and i'll pick up a guitar and play and sing you a song i've written even, if i'm sittin in my boxers... Cheryl didn't write the lyrics to the song, didn't write the melody or music. It was bought for her, she was given a cd of it and sent home to learn it, she then turned up and sang it in a studio, technology took over and fixed any errors. Bang it's on radio 1. Now we come to the part were Cheryl has to do the 1 thing she participated to in the song - SING. And she won't do it live, pre-recording gives them time to correct any mistakes. What kind of plumber can't plumb a sink, or electrician fit a light? She is 100% manufactured marketing and all real musicians have no respect for these type of so called artists...It's only now the general public seem to be catching on..The world is full of good singers, it's the song writers who are the talented ones...Who wrote Leona's single Bleeding Love? You don't know their name? My point exactly... They are the one who is making the most money from it, them and Simon...The Puppets get a small percentage... Cheryl puppet master is cashing in on her current high profile, open your eyes people. Go to your local pub and listen to some live band, you'll find so so so much more talent there than watching the manufactured puppet crew.
Peace

The reason she will not sing live is the same reason that most other "pop stars" will not sing live, that is technically speaking she cannot sing. Have a listen if you dare to one of the great operatic singers, someone like Anna Netrebko for instance. Here is a person who has studied and practised singing all her life, spent hundreds, no thousends of hours practising. Try to recognise the power and purity of the sound.
Then have a listen to someone like Cheryl Cole, it is offensive to the ears. The truth is that the talentless (as that is what they are) celebs dare not "sing live" as they sound like some screeching banshee at an office pee up and it is only with millions of pounds of recording equipment that they can sound any good.
So I support Cheryls decision not to sing live, I would support her if she decided not to sing at all. If only she would have the good grace not to do so.
She should stick to taking her clothes of for mens magazines, now there IS where her talent is.

- Mark, London

She could not spot Talent in a million years. If you have not talent you cant see talent. She needs to realise that she is a product of promotion and nothing else

- Lord Humphrey, West sussex

cheryl is truly fantastiic! leave her alone & get a life .

- Rob, sittingnourne Kent

Why does it matter, she can't sing anyway. just in the right place at the right time.

- Geordie, northumberland

How the hell can she sit there, Judgeing others when she cannot produce a live performance. Yes she was in there shoes once. But wake up girl, because you are getting to big for your shoes From. One fan you have lost.

- Jan, Devon

as if we could all do better, she is a very beautiful young woman who just wants to help someone else achieve there goal in life,

- Sarah, st andrews, fife

What's X factor and who is Cheryl Cole?????

- Steveb, Doncaster England

Yeah.. leave her alone, we love her for being her. She's not the best singer in the world. But lets be honest. Some of the best stars of the 80's have been helped vocally. Some of them by simon. I should know

- Kit, Bedford Uk

I think that Cheryl is letting down the X Factor and all the contestants down by not singing live. Even though the last time she sang with Girls Aloud on the X Factor she looked uncomfortable , shook and her voice was terrible she should make an effort and perform live to promote her new solo single. Its obvious that she knows a live performance would let her down and is afraid of the comments in the papers the next day. Maybe the X Factor should consider another performer rather than one of their judges!!

- Celia, Stafford England

She should sing live, as an example to the participants. But she won't. Her pre-recording cannot be counted as live, and while Robbie was weird, at least he really sang.

- Ana, Seoul, S.Korea

Oh come on !!! who cares !! its just another way for Cowell and his "ilk" to make money from TV - everybody's talking about it - you know what they say " no publicity is bad publicity" - People should turn the rubbish off and instead of calling in and voting for someone that will totally disappear with a year use that money far more wisely - donate a couple of quid to a breast or testicular cancer trust - donate a pound to a local hospice, come on people - see whats really important in life !!! stop feeding the egos and pockets of these parasites !!!!

- Phil Mccann, Liverpool

Will any of the debate make a difference? We will all wake up after the weekend knowing we have to go to work and knowing that Cheryl will be rubbish (with or without a live performance) and that still won't make a difference in the tabloids because if you have a pretty face who cares! (BTW Nichola has one of the strongest voices in GA but never gets any credibility because she is perceived to be the least attractive!). Nevertheless, you have to feel sorry for the acts she judges on X Factor who must stand there and say to themselves, " Aye right, Cheryl, as if you can comment on the quality and tone of someone's voice!

- Jamie 10, edinburgh

Don't forget she can't dance as well,

.

- Nubiah, london

I think if the truth be known that it is actually down to Simon Cowell behind the reason why Cheryl won't be singing live on saturday night. He does not want to be critiscised for having someone who can't sing judging on the panel! I say Dannii should get up there and show her how it's done!! Don't get me wrong,i think Cheryl is a very Beautiful woman but she should not be where she is today through singing because if you look at her performances on pop stars its so very out of tune!

- Melissa Ferguson, manchester, england

Cheryl Cole should sing live just as the contestants have to do. They are the only real part of the show. Even the judges are a joke, hardly professional are they ?
Cheryl gets away with too much simply because she's a stick insect with a beautiful face as are most female performers today. I say 'performers', because the majority are not singers are they ? They just strut their stuff and believe they can get away with that alone. Little plastic dollies that move.

- Nicola, Paull, England

Has no one heard her song? Its awful!!!!!!!!! Miming or not, Live or not .... It will not change the fact her song is just plain awful!!! I would of thought Cheryl would of had a song that would have blown us out the water instead its like a school child singing and the video is worse!!! Totally rubbish! Really she needs to sort out her song choices form now on I think she is going to fall flat on her face with this one and so she should for even daring to perform it in the first place. Totally disappointed she doesnt have more taste!

- Lauren, Peterborough UK

Saw Britney sing 'live' once -you couldn't have heard her if she' been standing next to you -Cheryl knows shes in that category -the games up -get off the show and plan your outfits for the world cup !!

- Ed, London

Cheryl proved herself years ago on Popstars - The Rivals - we all know she can sing even though she may not be a ballad-belting diva! It is a pre-record of a live perfomance in front of a live X-Factor audience, where's the issue? I think its all another case of lets bash someone successful - whatever she did, the public wouldnt be satisfied.

- Jo, Bangor, Wales

Who really cares anyway? I certainly don't. She can't sing yet she can sit on the panel and criticise other people. Amazing! Can't believe people get so upset about it!

- Sarah, Crawley

I dont know why there is all this fuss, she will be singing it live but it will be pre-recorded as lots of singers are nowadays. Why does everyone keep saying that Cheyl cant sing when she can, agreed she may not have the strongest of voices, but as Simon said on X Factor, neither does Robbie and it doesnt hurt him!

Louis and Simon cant sing either, but they are judges, at least Cheryl is in the business now, unlike Dannii who hasnt had a single out in years, and just gives horrid comments out, but no one moans about her!

Cheryl is singing live - read the article!!

- Clare At Work, Gloucestershire, UK

leave the girl alone, shes got real guts and she may not be the best singer but shes always been the 1st 2 admit it, shes gone from being in a band to singing solo, that wld be nerve racking for anyone, everyone just nds to give her a break.

- Alexis, fife

She cannot sing and every waking day I bet she says to herself "How did I get here". She is the weakest singer in GA and just has a pretty face. Teeth...fake.....Hair.....fake.....Body......BONY!!!! She will always be the girl that assaulted the toilet attendant to me! Now she is a star!! For what? I so agree with Amy from Newcastle (above). Look at all the Slack Alesha got for SCD when she can in fact dance and nothing was said when Cheryl was picked for XFactor and she cannot sing. Posh is a better singer than Cheryl as I would rather get down to Posh's "Out of your mind" than Cheryl's........errr......whatever it's called. One more thing then I will shut up. What was she thinking with those leopard print jogging bottoms, soooooo Ghetto-Chav!

- Abia, London UK

How can she sit there every week and judge contestants singing live when she is obviously not capable of doing it herself. What a farce!

- Jk, London

let an unknown be given the chance to sing live

- Kanda Leest, cheshire

I like Cheryl. I think she's a great role model and has had her head on her shoulders - a beautiful one at that - yes, yawn yawn! And I do think she can sing. Remember when all of Girls Aloud sang with James Morrison - that was live - and fantastic - including Cheryl. She might not have the most powerful voice and she would be the first to admit that, but she can hold a note. She can sing...
HOWEVER.... I do think it a massive contradiction if she doesn't sing live on the X Factor. Remember the amount of stick Britney got for miming - it was such a poor, plastic performance. Robbie hasn't got the best voice in the world either, yet, as Simon said, he's a great performer. I loved watching him on X Factor recently, he really connected with the crowd, it was electric! I don't know why Cheryl has to mime cos I believe she can sing and the X Factor is all about live performances. If I were her I would wear something equally as wearable for both her judging seat and her stage act. Even if just to shut us lot up! ;oD

- Maddy, Epsom

Cheryl should sing live as a judge on X Factor. She managed last year with the costume change with Girls Aloud, but then she had the other members of the band to drown her wailing. She mentors others about not letting nerves get the better of you and telling others that the fact is that they just can't sing, yet here we are she cannot practice what she preaches. Cheryl has only got where she is because of her looks, nothing else. There are other stunning women out there with talent, but they do not get the media hype and brainwashing as our Chezza. It is cirtainly true that she only became the nations sweetheart for staying with Cashley, before that she was a chava thug. She has milked the 'I forgive him' scenario for all its worth, hence the record. Now she says that she doesn't trust him but she wants a baby if her record flops, what a great role model for kids.. Sounds to me that she is using a child as a means to ensure a future income if her career crashes. Instead of the X Factor show or giving her sob story on GM TV next week, the Jeremy Kyle show should be more appropriate for her.

- Amy, newcastle

Come on Cheryl, you don't need to costume change, just get up their and sing!! Everything has to be pre-staged with you, in my mind a true artist is one that can sing on request, without music, as for saying your going to win again this year, it's the contestants voices and personalities that win the show nothing to do with you!!!!!!!!!!!!!

SING LIVE ...PROVE ME WRONG..........AND THEN I WILL BUY YOUR ALBUM......................!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

- Amy, Plymouth

i love Cheryl cole and i think she should do whatever she wants . we all just want to see her sing!! and you lot have way too much time on your hands to be writing really long comments.

- Kelly Smyth-16, raunds northamptonshire england

Everybody is criticisiing her but she willl be doing a live studio performance
alexandra only performed partly live but gave a good dance performance. You get 4 minutes of advertisements so she would have to leave her seat on the judging panel make her way to the dresising room get changed twice put different make up on do her hair dont forget she wants to portray a different image as a solo artist.she will be singing with backing dancers as well and then after the performance she has to get changed and go back to her seat so she wont have enough time to do a live performance.I have seen girls aloud in concert live and it was a fantastic performance stop picking on her other acts have pre-recorded their performances and don't get criticised.she isn't planning a solo career just an album and a couple of singles while girls aloud are on a break. Get of her back.

- Hilary, manchester

she cant sing at all she shouldnt even be a judge!

- Allana, glasgow

Everyone knows that Cheryl "Cole" couldn't carry a tune in a bucket, hence the need to remaster her pre-recorded tape which she will, of course, be miming to during her so-called performance.

- Anon, England

reply to Blue14, have u read whats happening, Cheryl is not miming, it will be her singing live to an audience but recorded before the show, this is not unusual for shows to do this, its no big deal, everyone will still be able to judge her actual singing, not like Alexandra last week - which was miming!!

- Jo, Scotland

The woman cannot sing at all. Like a lot of plastic boy/girl groups many of the members of such cannot sing. In Girls Aloud there is only Nadine and Kimberely that have any talent. Anyone seeing the show where this group was formed will have noted this. Cheryl is a very attractive woman with a tenuous show biz connection thats about it. Shes being allowed to use the show to promote herself. Whilst I am at it, Aleesha Dixon, similar vein, but a good singer and performer at least but with absolutely no knowledge 0r true understanding of dance, formal or otherwise. So why anyone thinks she can advise is beyond me. These two are lovely girls, but they are in the wrong place. Time to move them on.

- Ped, Pottters Bar, UK

Of course Cheryl is doing herself a favour by not singing live, because, in fact, she is not much of a singer.

- Teedee, stourport, worcester

i totally agree with comments, cheryl should sing live to prove that she can sing(or not).but i don't think she is a good enough singer to do it it's not fair that she should judge those that prove they are good singers live every week.

- Laine, hengoed mid glam

What a fuss about nothing. She will still be recording the song in front of 800 people. People do this all the time and now suddenly it is news. Have people nothing better to think about?

- Martina, Bexley

It is a really poor excuse not to sing live, without voice track infront of a live tv audience , and confirms what I have always thought, she hasn't got the voice, simple as! She is all about the hype, not the talent, yeah go on Cheryl, let's see u live with just a guitarist, back to basics, it won't happen, her voice is poor without all the production and digital tuning of her and her girl groups voices, absolute rubbish, hence "OOOH I WON'T HAVE TIME MAN"!!!

- Ian, COVENTRY, ENGLAND

she should sing live and if she has not got the confidence then perhaps she knows her voice is not good enough and should do something else for a living

- Hazel Linley, blackpool england

she should sing live

- Hazel Linley, blackpool england

I love the excuse why she can't sing live - not enough time - not enough time for what?? To sing live?! Shocking excuse!!!!!!!! And shame on you A Burke for miming!!!!!!

- M2l, Maldon, essex

I agree with Blue14 100%. She is lucky to have the X-Factor as a platform and she therefore should sing live same as the contestants have to. She will be getting a lot of criticism for this and rightly so. Not good enough Ms Cole - your stunning looks wont get you through this one!

- Clairela, Bristol

leave her alone, all the know alls how successful are you ? I'm sure she knows what she is doing

- William, Ireland

She should sing live, it might be a struggle for her but she knew that so saying that changing costumes is too much for her I think is ridiculas. I love Cheryl but I disagree with what she is going to do. It will get her a bad reputation and thats the last thing she wants when her career is flying high. She told Lloyd that everything would be a struggle when he got through so why is she takin the easy route when the song is about fighting your way to the top and not sitting back having a pre-recorded trackk made when the producers can change her voice. We all want to here it live chezz! And not pre-recorded, the whole point in the show is to sing live on stage not back stage it's not fair what your going to do x

- Samantha, Walsall

she should sing live as the others have to! how can you judge other people if your not doing the same? very hypocritical cheryl.

- Maria Lester, bedford

Cheryl is a singer....if she cant sing live the she needs to get herself a new job! i also dont think its fair, she`s their mentoring people who have nerves about making or breaing their dream but go out and sing live.....the only thing shes nervous about is not looking good!

Cheryl...if your not going to sign live......then dont bother with singing at all!

- Alex, Kent

I agree exactly!

Does she think she is too good now or something? Truth is she needs her voice edited and enhanced to make it sound like she can sing solo. She's rubbish otherwise. She can't do it with her other band members.

Prove everyone wrong Cheryl and sing LIVE. If you do and you're good ... I'll eat my words.

- Damie, Birmingham, UK

Cut Cheryl some slack!!
She is only doing what most artists do anyway. She will probably have a lot of choreography to contend with and the added pressure of being a judge on the same show. If I was a contestant in her group, I would rather she as able to focus on being there for me on my big night than streesing sbout her own performance x

- Feebs, Plymouth, England

I love cheryl to bits but too not sing live then judge people who are singing live just doe's not seem right you let me down cherly.
all the best
wayne

- Wayne Taylor, birmingham

She will be singing live in front of a live audience it just wont be live to the second that the programme is being aired. She wont be miming and whitney Huston wont have to have to run around like a headless chicken trying to get from the stage to the dressing room, back to the stage after getting changed and being supportive to her acts all at the same time! she will only have to sing then go backstage and be done with it.

I agree with cheryl, whats all the fuss about? SHE IS SINGING LIVE it just wont be aired live, too many people are just looking for excuses to call her every ooppertunity they get!!!

- Natalie, UK

To be honest "talent" shows have moved on so much since Popstars the Rivals. If Cheryl auditioned for X factor in front of Simon & Co now, she probably wouldn't even get through to bootcamp. Robbie Williams even stated that neither would he, in an interview recently.

What this all boils down to is Cheryl is more famous and sought-after now due to her husband's "alleged" infidelity....before this she was just as equally written about in the press as the other four (in fact Sarah Harding used to get the most publicity for being pi-eyed every weekend!!)

Ashley made women feel sorry for her and men want to mend her broken heart! THAT is her appeal these days, not her incredible vocal range. Having said that Madonna/Robbie are not the greatest vocalists in the world, but sell concert tickets/albums etc. by the millions......but then they are not a regular judge on a talent show like Cheryl is.

And THAT is the argument here.....Hypocrisy at its highest level. She should sing the whole thing live.... purely live raw vocals......or not at all.

- Laura, Glos

We all know why - she can't sing. Simple as.

- Roisin Burns, Sutton Surrey

whats the problem with it i would do the same. the poor girl is always rushed off her feet let her get on with it. people have been doing it yrs y target cheryl. go chez love u loads .

- Kkk, peterborough

cheryl, i think you should do it live coz everyone would love you and back u even if it went wrong. cant wait to hear it!!

- Emily, England

I really don't get this, she has said that she will be singing live, its just pre-recorded so that she can do the judging aswell. Yet everyone's having a go at her. Why can't we wait until sunday before we all judge her performane? Now, if she's good, everyone will say that she's miming. She cant win either way.

- Naomi, North West

I think Cheryl not singing live but pre-recording it is better than her miming to her actual single.

Bless her heart she has to do this on her own show infront of her peers so the nerves will really be hitting her.

Would you rather her sing really bad and then make herself feel bad for letting the public down over her first solo single or would you like to think that she is good and has got talent.

The song is recorded as a live perfomance but will not be live on Saturday night. It will be just as good because all the technology nowadays will make it sound live.

I don't see what the fuss is all about her not singing live.

I love Cheryl. I think she has got a great personality and is a great person so people should back off her a bit and let her get on and do what she wants to do.

x

- Charlotte 15, Norwich, UK

Take upon this challenge and sing live!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! The world want to see you sing live

- Fon16, london

Cheryl isn't making excuses, it's just that she doesn't have time to get too and from the panel and the performance. It isn't like she is miming unlike Alexandra Burke did last week. She is pre-recording it infront of a live studio audience, so she will still be singing live.
It wasn't even her choice to pre-record the performance, the bosses at the X factor thought it would be a better for the whole show.

- Laura, leeds

Cheryl Cole is a great girl and we all love her. But she MUST set an example to her group that she "mentors" and perform as she expects them to; LIVE.
Britney is a poor excuse for talent and merely a celebrity from her early work and the ability to go nuts. Her performance on X-Factor last year and her shows at the 02 this yeat were pathetic and I know because I was there. Strut-pout-strut-lip sync- hairflick...(repeat). The only people who appreciate such lack of talent and her, are people who like sparkly pink things, bleach and miniture dogs.
Cheryl, if thats all you can do, then fine, go and make a fool of yourself and national telly.
If I were her, I would see this as my biggest opportunity since becoming a judge. It gives her the chance to set herself ahead of her rivals and seperate her from the other girls a credible force on the charts.
A lot of BIG stars out there know they do not have the best "live" voices, but they sing nonetheless; Madonna, Mick Jagger, U2, Lady Gaga.
Robbie looked petrified on Sunday, and he did it with no backing singers, no set, no band. Hats off to the guy.
If you are going to judge your contestants on their vocals and live performances, you should be prepared to plug in the mic if you want to get up on the same stage and plug your new CD.
There. Rant over.

- Jon, London

leave her alone she knows she can't sing that well and so do we. i would rather listen to a recorded performance it will sound better than her singing live. she is going to be so nervous singing infront of everyone on her own as she usually has the support of the rest of girls aloud.

- Gemma, Scotland

I don’t think Cheryl is doing herself any favours by not singing live. Each contestant has to sing live every week, & she judges them, so why on earth is she being a hypocrite & not singing live herself? What kind of example is that setting for the contestants?

She has the advantage of using a popular show the such as the X Factor, that has millions of people watching each week. She wants people to see her as a serious solo artist & step away from her Girls Aloud image. Singing live, especially when she has engineered her solo debut to single to be released while the X Factor is being shown. She should sing live!

Whitney Huston is singing live & then comes along Cheryl Cole afterwards miming her performance. Eve though Britney mimed when she sang on the X Factor, Britney always has faced paced dancing all the way through her performances, Britney did sing live on her debut performance.

Cheryl is not helping herself by using excuses that there was not enough time to rehearse & costume change. They have hyped up Cheryl so much about her debut, & then she is going to pre-record her performance. She is leading on the public.
We want to see her perform LIVE, at the same time that she is performing, not a pre-recorded performance, as this can give the produces the opportunity to edit her performance to enhance her voice.
