4,000 viewers complain about Dannii Minogue sex jibe

Updated 17:27pm on 15 Oct 2009

Nearly 4,000 people have complained over Dannii Minogue's comment about an X Factor contestant's sexuality.

Sorry: Dannii apologised on TV

A total of 3,885 viewers have contacted the media regulator after the pop star judge teased Danyl Johnson during Saturday's live show for changing the lyrics of the Jennifer Hudson song, And I Am Telling You.

In reference to newspaper reports suggesting he is bisexual, she said: “If we're to believe what we read in the papers, there was no need to switch the gender reference in that song.”

Her comment angered fellow judge Simon Cowell, who is Johnson's mentor, and prompted the
complaints to Ofcom. But the regulator said it would not be investigating the incident. A spokesman said: “Ofcom has received 3,885
complaints. We are not currently investigating the complaints and have no plans to do so.”

Johnson, 27, shrugged off 37-year-old Minogue's remark and said: “I was not at all offended. We're completely cool about it.”

But Minogue was forced to apologise to him and viewers on last Sunday's live show. She said: “It was meant to be a humorous moment about the fact he had an opportunity to have fun with his song. Danyl and I were joking about the very same thing in rehearsals, so it carried on to the show. I spoke to Danyl straight after the show and he wasn't offended or upset by my comments, and knew exactly what I was saying.”

Meanwhile, producers have held talks with X Factor judge Louis Walsh about this weekend's live shows, after the Lite revealed he may not be appearing on Sunday's live results programme.

A spokeswoman said they were “working on the basis” that Walsh would not be on Saturday's show, as he will be attending the funeral of Boyzone star and close friend Stephen Gately.

Sense of humour in the Uk? = 0%.
It has to be calculated and checked , srcitunized and even the laughter controlled. Everthing controlled. Are people actually 'free' or slaves to theIr positions. This is really sad. these 4000 people need a life... :(

What is wrong with people...?

Seriously, if Danni feels she wants to say that then so be it, her opinion, her voice. Dont like don't watch the show. A question asking why there was a need to change the gender reference in the song because of what was writting in the paper, but it was okay when all judges referred to Kandy Rain's comments from the paper.

People seriously take things too far these days... Worried about what Danni is saying on XFactor... Sad!

Dannii WHO?

I am soooo sick and tired of the onslaught of an endless stream of talentless nobodies, famous for being famous, acting as judges over things they have little if any expertise in. These people have absolutely "Nothing" of any value to contribute to society. Anyone watching these shows needs to get a life.

A lot of ignorance in our society. The comment was misunderstood. The guy is way overhyped in any case.

My word, so many people are so uptight these days. It's getting that you cannot say anything without someone being offended. These people need to have something more important in their lives if they feel the need to complain like this.

I think people read into too much these days and that although what she said was out of context, all this media coverage is ridiculous and people need to accept it for what it was and that was a remark that was taken the wrong way, My god britain has become a fickle place to live in, everyone please move on already!!!

Was it just a publicity stunt ? SC appeared rather casual on Sunday's show after his anger on Saturday. So nothing will happen and KM was just being humerous, anything but !

I have never been a fan of Danni's I think she is a talentless waste of space who rides on her sister's coat tails! There was no need for such a low comment from her, I just hope that it may at least have been a nail in her own coffin and that they remove her from X Factor after this series.
