Girls Aloud so proud of Cheryl Cole's X Factor routine

Cheryl Cole was congratulated by her Girls Aloud bandmates after wowing the X Factor crowd with her solo debut.

You nailed it, pet: a beaming Cheryl Cole leaves the X Factor studios in London after performing her new solo song on the show. The Girls Aloud star appeared to sing the first verse and mime the rest

X Factor Blog: Does Cheryl Cole deserve such praise for her performance?

Sarah Harding, Nicola Roberts and Kimberley Walsh were in the audience of the show along with Cheryl's footballer husband Ashley Cole.

Give me five: Cheryl Cole is greeted by Sarah Harding after her performance on last night's X Factor

The four cheered the 26-year-old as she performed Fight For This Love wearing a military-style jacket, sheer body suit and trousers split to the hip.

Fashion faux pas: Whitney Houston's dress snaps

Despite an agreement with producers that she would mime, Cole bravely opted to sing the first verse of the song live before reverting to a pre-recording.

One audience member said: “Her vocals sounded shaky during the first part and then miraculously it came together.

Cheryl replied: “I feel fantastic. It took me right back to the days of Pop Stars: The Rivals.”

Cheryl, now an X Factor judge, met her Girls Aloud group in the television competition in 2002.

Whitney Houston, who performed after Cole, had a less triumphant evening when the strap on her dress broke as she sang new single Million Dollar Bill. The Grammy winner subsequently appeared flustered during an interview with host Dermot O'Leary.

Am i missing something? Has Janet Jackson not already done virtually the same dance routine before, in the same military style of clothes??? It just felt to me like a bit of a cop out!

Cheryl is a media puppet. How can the reporter say she BRAVELY sang the first verse she is supposed to be a singer for christs sake. It just shows you that image is everything and natural talent is scarce. In her prime Whitney Houston would have blown her off stage and done it all live. Everyone feels sorry for her because of the way Ashley Cole allegedly treated her and that's fair enough but she would not be in the position she is in if it was not for him as football has such a high profile. She has got where she is on the back of him.

she sang the first few words live, the rest was all pre-recorded..... so again fake, just like the hair extensions, and she promotes hair care products.... absolute joke is all i can say. Nice girl, but has a gobby attitude....... she needs to get real.... she only trusts her mother and dog.... get real girl...... why stay married !!!! Delerious, but bless her, she is pretty, but take away the amount of slap she wears she is your average jo !!

She is judging a live singing contest - therefore, she should have sung live - the whole song. She's a hypocrite.

How many songs did she sing? Did she write and arrange the music? Did she choreograph the dance routine? If she did all for one song then you could say congratulations. But if not, why all the fuss? Doesn't quite match Springstein's legendary 4 hour long concerts.

Come on, Cheryl has never been the great singer and it's not her voice everyone's so crazy about. She's a nice girl who got lucky to get into good producers' hands, but one has to face it - she remains quite down-to-earh and lovely and she's made a long way to be where she is now. It was an okay performance, especially considering the stress she was put under. Dancing was great, though. Best of luck to her.

I think this must be the 'kings new clothes syndrome'. It was awful not flawless. Cheryl was no better than the female singer who came last albeit she survived. Simon was definately patronising her. As for Whitney, she looked totally exhausted and somewhat confused by Dermot questions. Only the people working closely with the show thought is was marvellous for fear of professional reprisal!!!!

Surely it would have been more of an inspiration to the contestants if Cheryl had sung her song completely live, as they have to. Both song and performance were mediocre at best. Cheryl is better sticking with Girls Aloud, although her profile is at such a high level it is obvious to try an cash in by going 'solo'. I wonder what the rest of the girls think? Could it be the beginning of the end for the group? As for Whitney? Shambolic, she looked liked she'd just got up out of bed, or came straight from a long session in the bar.

Cheryl was fantastic! All you haters, try judging and performing and dont hide behind the computer and condemn. Come and show what you've got! Cheryl is hot, talented and had shown she has a right to be a judge after a perfromance like that. Watch this space. Hollywood will beckon soon with loads of jobs for this 26 year old woman. Cannot compare her with Victoria Beckham or Sharon Osborne.... You go girl....We are waiting for you here in Hollywood xxx

Seriously what is wrong with people. She sang live. She looked stunning. Her dancing was flawless leave her alone. Theres far more important things going on in the world to talk about that did Cheryl sing live - which she did.

Both performances, Cheryl and Whitney, were just terrible. Cheryl looked tired and overwhelmed with the whole performance. She lacked energy and it all seemed rather manufactured. Whitney on the other hand seemed stoned and unable to string a sentence together. It was all a sad state of affairs.

what a wierd performance. I was also wondering how the singing magically improved, it was when the live singing stopped! cheryl should stick to the day job and then her voice would not be noticed in the group. why on earth did she let herself be persuaded she could could sing solo? she has been performing since 2002, surely she would have realised by now that she has a weak voice!

I note that she was introduced as "performing live." Shame that performance didn't include the singing!

Having watched her performance on Saturday all I can say is mediocre at best and whoever her wardrobe adviser is I would sack them immediately. Whitney Houston was not willing to comment on the rest of the mediocre contestants, I would also sack her wardrobe adviser. Simon Cowell was very diplomatic with the truth.

Weak in the extreme - how did she get into Girl's Aloud in the first place.... it's all looks oriented. If that was a contestent they'd be booted out sharpish
