Peaches Geldof: Don't say I'm like my mum

Arty-loving Peaches Geldof has hit back at critics who compare her to her tragic mother Paula Yates, who died aged 41 from an accidental heroin overdose. Peaches was just 11 when her mother died in 2000, and she has since faced inevitable comparisons.

No comparison: Paula Yates and Peaches Geldof

She said: “The only problem I have about comparisons is when people say, Is she trying to be like her mother?' I am not trying to ape my mother because I go out because I'm young. You can't compare partying to someone with serious problems like that. It doesn't make sense. But by all means compare my TV presenting and writing to hers.”

Peaches makes her plea in ITV2's Fearne And... Peaches Geldof, due to be screened next Wednesday.

The 20-year-old added: “Apart from her problems with addiction, which isn't an admirable quality, she was an amazing woman. She was like a light bulb who would light up anywhere. She had this quality so different to anyone else, it was a magnetic thing. She was an amazing presenter, very provocative and flirty, and a really funny writer.”

In the documentary, Peaches also talks about her brief marriage to US musician Max Drummey, who she wed in Las Vegas in August 2008.

She said: “The marriage was a crazy, true romance thing and I was really, really happy for the duration of the time. But we got to think that we were way too young and it was silly, and that we should probably split as I'm only 20 and he's only 24. That's the main reason we split. We were too young and we were both nuts — I'm really weird and he's totally crazy.”

paula yates was actually a very intelligent woman who as a teenager took exams early due to her intelligence. Now Peaches, however much she protests does trade on her famous parents, and really we all know it!!!

Whenever I watched Paula Yates I thought she was a funny, charasmatic, witty woman. So if her daughter is similar is would not surprise me after all she has her genes. There are to many bitter people with bitter opinions in this world.

Paula Yates was hardly a towering talent yet Peaches can't hold a candle to her. How embarrassing for her.

Pointless individual, who lacks any talent, who seems be given the media spotlight purely on her name.

"But by all means compare my TV presenting and writing to hers.”

Certainly: vapid and amateur.
