The man accused of punching Leona Lewis in the face at a book-signing missed his court appearance today because he was too ill to attend.

Peter Kowalczyk, 29, is accused of assaulting Bleeding Love star Leona. He allegedly punched her savagely at the signing of her autobiography Dreams at Waterstone's in Piccadilly.

Drama: guards pounce on suspect

Witnesses told how she clutched her head and burst into tears as she was taken to hospital after the attack on 14 October. Kowalczyk, of south London, was sectioned under the Mental Health Act after the attack and the court heard he was still too unwell to appear before City of Westminster magistrates. The hearing was adjourned for four weeks.

Leona, 24, put on a brave face today, smiling as she arrived at Heathrow in a jumper and sunglasses.
