Gordon Ramsay has told how he underwent a painful beauty treatment to have the deep grooves on his chin filled in, on the advice of Simon Cowell.

Chin chin: Gordon Ramsay has made it big in the US

The tough-talking F Word host, known for his craggy looks, told the Radio Times he took the advice after making it big in the United States.

He told the magazine: "My mother said they were smile lines. I could deal with that at 21, but not at 42.

"Simon Cowell suggested that now I'm a success in America, I should do something, so I had a filler put under the deep crevices. It hurt."

He also praised his "brilliant" wife Tana and told how the media storm following rumours that he had had an affair "made us incredibly closer with the support of friends like David and Victoria (Beckham) and our families".

Speaking about how his wife has faced criticism after signing up for ITV's Dancing On Ice, he said: "already jibes have started - she's called 'Clingon', 'Gordon's little limpet'.

"Holy mackerel! Some women columnists are much more vicious than men. Bitter. Vindictive.

"But Tana's resilient, a young mum of 34 who dedicated eight years to bringing up our children brilliantly. I'm looking forward to her dancing because her buttocks are so firm it's like clinging to a six-pack."

Continuing to praise his wife's posterior, he said: "She has the bum of an 18-year-old. I woke the other day and she was doing buttock-clenching exercises."

He added: "I said: 'Jump back into bed..."'

Ramsay also insisted he has not short-changed customers by supplying some of his kitchens with food prepared centrally.

"Guys, get real. We also supply high-octane restaurants that I'll never admit to. You'd freak out if you knew which they were."

The full interview appears in the latest issue of the Radio Times.
