Oh no! John and Edward really could win X Factor

Updated 14:00pm on 27 Oct 2009

X Factor twins John and Edward Grimes could be the shock winners of the contest after it was revealed they received the highest number of public votes.

Two's company: fans see twins at house

The 18-year-olds came out top on the live show which saw favourite Danyl Johnson, 27, narrowly escape being voted off.

An insider said everyone was stunned that the popularity of the Dublin-born brothers had increased, especially after their out-of-tune performance of Ricky Martin's She Bangs on Saturday.

X Factor Blog: The twins have the 'compulsive viewing' factor

They added it would be judge Simon Cowell's “worst nightmare” if they went on to claim the X Factor crown.

The source said: “If John and Edward win, it will no longer be a show about great singers — it could be disastrous. But you know what? It could happen.”

But a spokeswoman for the show said: “It's all just speculation at the moment.”

Cowell has made no secret of his dislike of the twins, calling their rendition of Oops I Did It Again “the worst live performance I've ever sat through in all these years of doing this show”.

Fellow judge Louis Walsh, who is mentoring the twins, said: “Kids love these guys. They're young, they're fun and have the likeability factor which is what this show is all about. I know some don't like them but they should back off and leave them alone. They put a smile on your face — what's wrong with that?”

Their popularity spoke for itself yesterday as hundreds of fans converged on the Golders Green house where the finalists are staying to get a glimpse of them.

The pair waved to fans from a window and later stopped for photos and autographs as they visited a local supermarket.

The public voting for these idiots, can not and do not have a clue what talent is and would not know it if it bit them on the backside.
It is all a big laugh to them, they do not realise what they are doing to the twins. If they do win, then what? In two months time they will be back doing their old jobs, (if they ever had one that is).
Leona had talent, she won, look at her now…. Chico did well, he had no talent, where is he now..? Compared to Leona, nowhere…
People seem to think that they can get one over on Simon if they vote for the twins....Think of the people that do have talent who are still in the competition and are being voted out week for week because they do vote for the talentless arrogant numpties.... It’s not Simon who will suffer it’s the others. Get real folks they are rubbish. Stop making the UK look like a bunch of no brainers…

No they can't sing....but does that matter?

X Factor is not just about voices, it about someone who can entertain and does/has something different. Most recording artists today sing over backing tapes or have auto-tuners on (Cheryl Cole? Britney?) so it is those who CAPTURE PEOPLE'S INTEREST that matter. And these two, like it or not, do.

So it is not a disgrace if they win. Some past winners who HAVE had great voices have faded into oblivion (Leon Jackson, Steve what's-his-face, etc.). They had good voices but no X Factor. No-one was interested in them after the show finished.
Many of the current contestants can sing but either take it way too seriously and perform a song into a unrecognisable warble-fest, and have zero personality.

These two may win, and if they get a contract, they will forever mime to tapes, be all over the newspapers...but let's face it, that's all you need to be a popstar nowadays.

Sign of the times, not of the X Factor or the television viewing public. They are voting based on Saturday night entertainment, which these to provide in abundance.

I did not vote for them and will not, but l understand their appeal.

I love John and Edward. I am 68 years of age and they make me feel young again. I want them to win. Simon Cowell and Louis W. always say that many singers can not sing well. So it doesn' matter if the twins can not sing. With all the tecnology of now a days they will sound OK!!! All my family loves them.

Sue, Orpington Kent dont be so melodramatic! Im not a moron but I want J&E to win. They are fun and better than a lot of the pap pop acts that take themselves far to seriously. They make me laugh - and god do we need a laugh in the current climate!

I've regrettably slept through the last two weekends' worth of X-factor. (hint to producers: do you think you could cut all the extra rubbish and just stick to the singing?)

Do not blame the twins - blame the public for voting.

Could the voting be rigged? Could the twin win?

Were they a plant by the BBC?

Keep Watching

"It has NEVER been about great singers

It has always been about manufacturing people they think look good with mass appeal to give some rubbish love song (and it is ALWAYS a love song) to make millions of pounds for record labels."

What a stupid comment. Alexandra Burke, didn't come out with a love song. Not sure Leonard Cohen's "Hallelujah" can be called a love song, and "Bad Boys" certainly isn't. Another pop-culture snob making an unfounded comment. Now THAT'S inevitable...

They look rediculous, can't sing, can't dance in time with each other. Just goes to show why this country is in the mess its in, with lots of morons voting them in each week, now we know how Labour got on three times and destroyed this country.

I still don't get how the twins have received the most public votes!! Miss Frank bowing out this week was one of the most unjust and disgraceful moments on X Factor. Correct me if i'm wrong, but isn't X Factor a singing competition?? I've heard dogs howl sweeter tunes than John and Edward! Come on Britain! Grow a pair...of ears!! Let's not let real talent go in place of Tweedle Dee and Tweedle Dum!

Perhaps that the public is voting for these guys shows that the public is actually lot smarter than many in the media would like to think and it is sticking two fingers up to the producers of such shows. It would be fantastic if these guys won and brought the whole genre crashing down.

Don't you people get it. They are getting voted in because people are sick of this cynical show and want to see egg on Cowells face. Now who is the numpty's?

i have yet to see and hear a less talented pair of numptys in my life, it shows why this land of ours is in such a state, we support losers, and never reward talent.

These boys are absolutely dire. They can't sing a note in tune. Good singers have gone out of the competition because some deluded viewers have voted for their out of tune performances.

John and Edward put on a brave face every week listening to the blatant insults of Simon Cowell et al. They have great spirit, have a sense of fun and are a breath of fresh air. The world is full of good voices who sing formulaic songs with boring predictable dance routines, and they are so full of their own importance. I hope that twins win the contest. If the others are good enough, they will still have good careers.

nobody in their right mind would spend money on a cd with the twins singing .
if they win the x factor that will be as far as they go .they are a joke they cannot sing and dont even dance in time to the music .
there is more talent in the compertition than them two and the people who are voting should have more sense
