Tamara Mellon invites the stars to support Jimmy Choo's HIV project in Africa
Updated 09:12am on 30 Oct 2009Celebrities and designers mingled at Selfridges last night for the launch party of Project Pep, a new line of Jimmy Choo shoes and accessories aimed at raising money for rape victims in South Africa.

Among those present were film director Guy Ritchie, socialite Diane Jenkins, designer Melissa Odabash, Claudia Winkleman — presenter of Strictly offshoot It Takes Two — and Harold Tillman, the owner of Jaeger.

Devised by Jimmy Choo boss Tamara Mellon and Sir Elton John, a quarter of profits from Project Pep sales will help fund a centre in Cape Town, where rape victims exposed to HIV are given anti-retroviral drugs to stop the virus developing.

I feel sorrow over this. Whereas the intention is right, surely the presence of the founder is warranted? Jimmy Choo started the business many years ago. He has been pushed into the background since then.
Ms Mellon is the "face" of the organisation and although she is responsible by and large for the success of the operation, her continued overlooking of the genious Jimmy is deplorable and leaves a sour taste.
