John Simm admits destroying his pal David Tennant on screen in Doctor Who was “great fun”.

Old friends: John Simm and David Tennant

He plays The Master in the Christmas special, which sees David's incarnation of the Time Lord “transmodify” into new actor Matt Smith.

John, currently appearing in the play Speaking In Tongues at the Duke Of Yorks Theatre, said: “The Master is absolutely insane. Although it is very sad that David is leaving, it was great fun to film.”

That comment (minus the misspelling of John Simm's name) is about the nicest way I could have thought of to put it.

Well done.

The master is my all time favorite dr who adversary. Really looking forward to the christmas episode, although I like many dr who fans will sorely miss David Tennant as the doctor.

I am very sad to see Tenant leave because to me he was the best doctor. I loved the master and John Simms is great at being the master. At the end of the episode where Saxon takes over the world and Martha Jones saves it my friend and I both knew we'd be seeing Saxon again when Lucy picks up his ring from the pyre.

I will give Matt Smith a go, not just because we both have the same last name, but I know that the time lords must go on....

In closing...

Godspeed to you David and I hope and wish for you great success in all you do.
