Hell’s Kitchen gets the chop in ITV cutback

ITV1 chiefs are set to axe Marco Pierre White's Hell's Kitchen — and replace it with a cheaper version of the show.

Pared-down show: Marco Pierre White

The pricey format, which sees food such as foie gras and veal served up to an audience of celebrities, has been given as the reason behind the chop. A five-star restaurant and kitchen costing thousands of pounds was built from scratch for the show. The celebrities were also paid large sums to take part.

Pierre White, 47, will front the new show — Marco's Kitchen Burnout — in which 12 celebrity chefs will compete over four weeks, serving up Michelin star food. Customers will give their opinion on the food and the worst chefs will receive one of Marco's infamous blasts. The four weekly winners will face-off in a semi-final before two go head-to-head in the final.

It will be filmed in a real kitchen to save costs and punters will have to fork out for their food. The show is set to be filmed early next year and will be aired on Friday nights in April.

ITV said: “We are working on a new idea for Marco. Hell's Kitchen may well return in the future.”
