Kym Marsh crowned Celebrity Mum of the Year

Updated 11:56am on 4 Nov 2009

Coronation Street star Kym Marsh was named Celebrity Mum of the Year today.

Congratulations: Coronation Street star Kym Marsh is named Celebrity Mum of the Year at the Lowry Hotel in Manchester

The actress and mother-of-two confirmed she is back together with former Hollyoaks star Jamie Lomas as she accepted the award.

Marsh, 33, plays barmaid Michelle Connor in the ITV1 soap and is mum to David, 14, and Emily, 11.

She and Lomas had to cope with the death of their premature baby boy earlier this year.

Archie Jay Lomas was born 18 weeks early in February, and died moments after birth.

Marsh said: "Yes we are back together. Jamie has got a son of his own and he is a very good father but he can't win Celebrity Mum of the Year!

"It is a real honour to get this award. It is nice to know I have got a lot of support out there, it has been a really difficult year.

"I have been a single parent in the past and I have had struggles so hopefully people still think I have done the best by my children."

The former Hear'Say star accepted the Bounty Celebrity Mum of the Year 2009 Award, voted for by the public, at the Lowry Hotel in Manchester.

Marsh is divorced from former EastEnders star Jack Ryder and split up with Lomas last month, only for them to reconcile.

Her two children are from a previous relationship with Dave Cunliffe.

Marsh, who beat her former bandmates Myleene Klass and Suzanne Shaw to the crown, added: "It is so important to have a big family network. My parents are so supportive and their dad is very involved in our children's upbringing."

Other mums who lost out to Marsh include TV presenter Holly Willoughby, news reader Natasha Kaplinsky and David Cameron's wife Samantha.

Controversial glamour model and former winner Katie Price was also up for the award.

What has she done to get this award. So yes, she lost a baby in the new year but so did other countless unfortunate parents. All you ever see is her plastered all over the media with what seems to be a different beau or bleating because the current one has had enough of her. Perhaps it is the look alike Jordan boobs that caught the judges eye. Who is looking after her kids when she is working on Coronation Street. The award should have gone to all the widows from the Afghan war, they know what it is to be a parent and have to work hard. Not only do they have to take the role of grieving wife and mother but also that of a father too.

What an extraordinary world where the three best half-famous mum's in the land all belonged to the same short-lived band. It's akin to all three members of Bros being nominated for Pipe Smoker of the Year. Very rum indeed, and Katona must be very gutted (not a reference to her figure, by the way).

I can't believe Katie Price never got it. The standard really was high.
