R'n'B star Chris Brown today admitted he didn't know what he was thinking when he attacked his former girlfriend Rihanna.

"Wrong": Chris Brown admits his faults and ex-lover Rihanna (right) who urged women to get help

The singer said “anger” was behind the assault just hours before the then-couple were due to attend a pre-Grammy Awards party in February.

Speaking on MTV he claimed he still loved Rihanna and when asked what drove him to hit his ex-girlfriend, he said: “Just anger. Yeah, anger. Young people, we do before we think.”

And describing his emotions for the first time since the attack, Brown said: “My thoughts are like, Why did it happen? What was I thinking? What is wrong with you?'.”

Brown, 20, was arrested that night, and later pleaded guilty to assault and was orderd to stay away from Rihanna. He was also placed on probation for five years and sentenced to six months of community service.

His comments come as Rihanna urged women suffering domestic violence to speak out and get help.

The 21-year-old singer said she hopes other victims will take “inspiration” from her experience. She said: “I want to send a message to young women who have been through this sort of violence that there is help out there”.
