New Sugababes line up thank fans for support

Updated 15:45pm on 12 Nov 2009

The latest line-up of British girl group Sugababes performed together on television for the first time this morning, and said it "meant a lot" that fans had stuck by them.

Amelle Berrabah, Heidi Range and new member Jade Ewen - who replaced Keisha Buchanan after she left the band in September - sang their new single, About A Girl, on GMTV.

Before the performance, Amelle, 25, revealed that she was feeling "absolutely better" following her recovery from a bout of nervous exhaustion, for which she spent three weeks in a private clinic in Austria.

"I just got to the point - it was very difficult for me and Heidi from the other line-up," she told presenters Andrew Castle and Penny Smith.

"Basically, I just needed to get away and just shut off and just take a new look. And - I don't know - just sort my head out basically. I feel really good, and we're just getting on with things and it's a really exciting time for us."

Heidi, 26, also thanked fans for sticking by them despite Keisha's controversial exit from the chart-topping pop trio.

"I know it's not easy for the fans to accept a new change, and they've really stuck by us, so it means a lot," she said.

After her departure, Keisha wrote on Twitter it was not her choice to leave, but while she insisted that "there were no arguments or bullying", she spoke about "a breakdown in communication and lack of trust".

Asked why Keisha left the group, Heidi revealed: "It got to a point where it wasn't working. We really did try for so long, and you know - I just think life's too short to be feeling like that - and we just couldn't make it work.

"I feel that myself and Amelle made the right decision morally, and our label stood by us and our management."

The Sugababes' new single, About A Girl, is out now.
