Eva Longoria Parker has been named Philanthropist of the Year.

Helping the community: Actress Holly Robinson Peete, Eva Longoria Parker, musician Sheryl Crow and Kate Beckinsale attend Hollywood Reporter's philanthropist of the year award reception

The Hollywood Reporter honoured the Desperate Housewives actress at BOA Sunset in west Hollywood for her dedication to Latino causes and giving back to the community.

"I've never met a more conscientious and socially aware young, energetic talent," said Hollywood Reporter publisher Eric Mika.

He added: "Eva's efforts on behalf of the causes near and dear to her are Herculean. She pours her free time and energy into raising millions of dollars for charitable missions that make a difference in the Latino community and other humanitarian organisations."

The actress founded Eva's Heroes, a charity in her home town of San Antonio which provides an after-school programme for children with developmental disabilities, as well as being a spokeswoman for Parents Against Cancer, which aims to improve the lives of families of Latino children with cancer.
