Actress Anna Friel sparkled in diamond jewellery worth Ł2.4 million as she switched on the Bond Street Christmas lights.

Thousands turned up to see Ms Friel, currently starring in Breakfast at Tiffany's at the Theatre Royal Haymarket, evoke the age of Hollywood glamour in a white fur stole and a pink satin dress.

Among the gems on loan from jeweller Donald Edge was a Ł1 million necklace made of diamonds weighing 60 carats.
