It's a Friday night comeback for Chris Evans with role on BBC TV

Chris Evans is making a comeback on prime-time television by hosting BBC1's One Show on Friday nights.

Friday slot: Chris Evans

The 43-year-old will co-host the show with Christine Bleakley, filling in for Adrian Chiles.

The former TFI presenter, who was a recent guest on the One Show, is due to begin his new role next year after he replaces Terry Wogan on BBC Radio 2's breakfast show. Bosses at the corporation say Evans is ideal for the role, despite his last show — OFI Sunday on ITV — being axed after just five episodes.

Jay Hunt, BBC1 controller, said: “The One Show talks in light terms about issues that affect people. It's something Chris can do very well.”

Chiles is set to front a new programme on Fridays called The Ten Show.

Just two weeks ago, Evans, who currently hosts Radio 2's drivetime show, said he may never return to television. He said then: “TV is just an invention, and all inventions eventually become obsolete.”

So how many jobs can presenters of BBC programmes be paid for? hardly as if we have chronic unemployment and persons are gratefull for 1 contract of employment.

The BBC must be really desperate, then again they have let the awful one show run this long.

Chris is such a talented performer, fantastic to see him back where he belongs!
