Video: 'I have no regrets about waving knife to scare off intruders', says Myleene Klass
Updated 08:47am on 12 Jan 2010TV presenter Myleene Klass said she had "no regrets" after she was warned by police about waving a knife at intruders.
The youths had entered the garden of her home near Potters Bar in Hertfordshire and the star - who also appears in Marks and Spencer ad campaigns - grabbed the kitchen knife in an effort to get them to leave.
Klass said the incident was "scary", but claimed it was "what any other mother would do".
The 31-year-old was at home on Friday with her daughter upstairs when she spotted the youths peering into the house.
She grabbed the knife and banged the windows which prompted them to run away.

"I will do anything to protect my daughter and my family": Myleene Klass was speaking at the launch of new ITV1 series Popstar To Operastar
But she said she had been told by Hertfordshire Police officers she should not have used a knife to scare them off.
"It was a scary incident but I've got no regrets as to how I reacted. I think I did what any other mother would do", Klass said.
"This is my house and that's my daughter up there and I will do anything to protect my daughter and my family. That's what I did."
She added: "I just saw a shadow pass. I was lying on the floor, on the phone. They were standing at a patio door with just a sheet of glass."
Herts Police said no reference was made in the incident report to a weapon.
A spokeswoman said: "Words of advice were given in relation to ensuring suspicious behaviour is reported immediately."
Klass was speaking at the launch of new ITV1 series Popstar To Operastar, which she will co-host with Alan Titchmarsh.
The series follows former chart stars as they try to make it as classical singers.
The series features Blur's Alex James, Klass's former Hear'Say bandmate Kym Marsh and McFly's Danny Jones. It launches on January 15.

These thugs got off lucky! My woman would have chased them down and beat the snot out of them. She's like a Mama Bear when someone threatens her cubs! I just shoot 'em.

She did what she was entitled to do in her own home, to protect herself and her family. The fact that the Police are useless and the legal system in this country has gone completely bonkers due to equally useless, corrupt and bonkers politicians should not dissuade people from exercising their COMMON LAW RIGHTS!

Thank goodness for Myleene and what she did. Whatever your feelings are about her - the one thing that this has proved yet again is the police and justice system couldn't give a monkey's about victims and are only concerned about keeping criminals safe.

I wonder what would have happened if this woman had told the police that they could not have approached her without a signed document from their supervisor in charge, I am informed that if they had come back with a signed document, she may have been able to charge the police with aiding and abetting. That would have been interesting.

When I heard a banging noise in my neighbours garden (they were away)I walked up their drive with my shotgun (I was obviously looking for the fox which had killed my chickens) these 2 lads saw me and asked if the gun was real, I replied, look how old I am (pensioner) and do you imagine that I walk round with a toy one at this time of night. They left.

The police are correct. Their job is to make sure criminals are not subjected to threats and attack by members of the public.

It was very quick thinking of Myleene once the intruders had been spotted to reach for her mobile and grab miles of column inches.

The facts seem to change each time she opens her mouth - upstairs, downstairs, lying on the ground , banging on the window with a knife, youths trying to get in the shed, in the house. Anyone would think some Angolan rebels had launched a sustained attack.
Give it a reset Myleene. Are your contracts up for renewal or something?

You did the right thing. Everyone should be allowed to protect themselves and their families in their own home. Now capitalise on this by using your fame and contacts to rally support and to get the law changed. Good, decent people, families will support your case.

Who reported this story? Myleene herself or did the intruders call the police. Seems a bit strange that we are hearing about this.

Good on you Mylene! I think everyone in the country supports you, apart from this crack pot government that introduced the laws in the first place to protect criminals....

Why shouldn't she protect her home and family by any means necessary. These criminals need to be taught that they can't help themselves to other peoples posessions and property. Good on her!

Too right, Myleene. Any person has the right to defend their home and family to the utmost if someone intrudes or threatens their family. There's something really wrong with the state of things when the courts/police/gov't caution people for doing the right and sane thing.
