VIDEO: Angry Mel Gibson swears at TV presenter in awkward interview

Updated 09:18am on 4 Feb 2010

A frustrated Mel Gibson was on a Chicago morning show plugging his movie when things got a little awkward.

The presenter asked if Mel thought the public would perceive him any differently after all that his been in the news about him.

The star asked the presenter to explain what he was referring to exactly. To which he responded, "the drinking problems, the anti-semantic rant..."

The Hollywood actor responded "that's almost four years ago dude, I've moved on, I guess you haven't."

After a few more moments of cringing television the reporter did the obligatory plug to see the movie.

But Mel gave his own special sign off and swore at the TV journalist.

"No matter what you do: murder, adultery (sorry this is now termed "sex addiction"), drugs, robbery; as long as you say sorry publicly you are ok by the American public!"
- Dannyp, Egham

Actually, not the American public but the American Media/Press/Celebrity/Hollywood contingency. The American public is sick to death of this mind set. "Sex addiction" is the latest label.

That said, this interviewer was out of line. This morning he was positively gushing about the fact that this story has taken off in the press. I bet his friends are congratulating him-'"Well done, you made international headlines!"

Jock....I know that Gibson wrote, directed and starred in Brave Heart...and is quite probably your hero, otherwise I can't even begin to contemplate what other reason you would defend him..hang on maybe your just a big fan of What Women Want??

You don't have to be an expert in body-language to see that this man has some sort of problem....his eyes bulge and he is very angry and self-defensive. Like all bullies, he hates being bullied.....

Time to move on yourself, Momo.

Like Mel said, the "alleged" anti-semitic remarks were attributed to him by people who weren't even there at the time of his DUI arrest. The allegation could well have been concocted by the arresting officer because he knew who Mel was, and of the impact it would have. From what I've read, nothing has ever given proof of what Mel did say.

Or perhaps you were there and witnessed it all, Momo? Or maybe you just like to play the race card trick whenever you can?

Mel Gibson is not welcome in my house. We boycot him in the same way we would pay no attention to abu hamza.
For heavens sake, he cant even act.

What is it about reporters and why do they have such a downer on Mel Gibson?? The only reason this has become news is because he's reacted to it and badly. Now they're just doing it to wind him up for coverage. There are many many so called stars out there who have done a whole lot worse & are forgiven for it so I think we can stop mentioning stuff from 4 yrs ago and move on... It wasn't even that interesting 4 yrs ago for goodness sake!

Gibson shouldn't even have a career, let alone be plugging a new movie. Why should he be allowed to move on after his tirade of racial abuse, he should always be reminded.

Yeah, I guess since there wasn't anything new since 4 years ago, they will still be bringing up the good old story! Sad people! It has been resolved 4 years ago. Should I ask the reporter about something he did four years ago, he will tell you the same thing...why would you bring it up now. Can't they come up with better questions?? I want to know what is he planning for the future, how he enjoyed to work on the last film etc. God I am not a reporter, but could come up with million of better questions than them!!

Well said Mel. Truthful description of a parastitic reporter. I did like Mel's description of what is required by the American public when you transgress: a quick public apology and short stint with Betty Ford and they love you again. No matter what you do: murder, adultery (sorry this is now termed "sex addiction"), drugs, robbery; as long as you say sorry publicly you are ok by the American public!

anti-semetic remarks are never good drunk or sober but neither is not letting people move on.
