Susan Boyle 'needs 24-hour care' says her worried brother

Updated 09:37am on 26 Feb 2010

Fresh concerns about the health and well-being of Susan Boyle were raised today when one of her brothers said the singer was in need of '24-hour care'.

The 48-year-old star, who shot to worldwide fame following her appearance on Britain's Got Talent, has suffered a series of health problems.

Concern: Susan Boyle's brother says she needs 24-hour care

After failing to win the final of the ITV talent show she was admitted to the Priory clinic suffering from exhaustion.

Last month, she allegedly threw a tantrum in a British Airways VIP lounge shouting obscenities and trying to polish a passenger's shoes with a mop.

Last week she collapsed at Heathrow Airport.

"The traveling and the whole (fame) thing is exhausting. She still has her anxieties and her loneliness," her brother Gerry told US magazine People.

Her other brother, John, said: "She needs 24-hour care. She needs to be looked after."

Boyle's debut album I Dreamed A Dream was the world's biggest selling album in 2009.

Following a break-in at her home in Scotland last month, Boyle now makes late-night calls to her family and friends.

Long-time friend Lorraine Campbell said: "She knows she can come up to me anytime. If she's upset, she'll stay the night. Security would bring her up to my house. I take her home in the morning. Susan stayed with me a week ago. Nighttime is a lonely time for her."

Susan is much stronger than she is given credit for and if her brothers think she needs help then they should giver her the help and not just go to the papers

This whole thing is silly. Her brothers are concerned about the break in and the stress it's causing her, so they mouth off to the press and Boyle gets depicted as an idiot. Her brothers need to stop airing the family's laundry to the red tops. The last person to become this famous this quickly shot the Archduke Ferdinand. She's doing it all without Brian Epstein and three other Beatles. Give the girl a break.

The concerns are about her safety, NOT her sanity!!!!!!

After having her refuge broken into, she's felt stressed. Anyone would. If she weren't, I'd worry about her.

Everybody chill!

Lisa, London, firstly Susan has done many things on her own, looked after her mother, gone to num erous auditions before BGT and even on BGT she had to go through the semi final, after all that bad press on her own and then the final, I think that took guts, especially when you are 47 and on your own. What exactly have you done.... It seems strange to me that her brothers are concerned that she is lonely, they weren't worried that she was "sad & lonely" when he mother died!! The World love Susan Boyle. No.1 in 11 countries and 11 weeks No.1 in Australia. She is certainly living her dream and seems to be fine if recent photos are anything to go by. Good for you Susan.

Susan Boyle IS being cared for 24/7 by those who can be trusted, longtime friends and neighbors, security and a professional companion provided by Simon; she doesn't need brothers who go running to the media with trumped up stories. She is sane, intelligent, funny, compassionate and competent.

I have said before I believe she needs someone living with her who is qualified with learning disorders and would be able to look after her and keep her company.
I love her she has a great voice despite Elaine Paige saying she is a virus.
I just caught a bit of Miss Paige on TV this morning saying she wants to sing in New York, well Susan does not have to prove anything she has already succeeded in America.

Annwhittle "achieved on her own" the only thing she did on her own was turn up to the audition in the first place....

she brings tears to my eyes, everytime i see her or hear her sing, i always felt that she needs to be surrounded by people who genuinely care for her, rather than those who exploit a very vulnerable woman,

Such a lot of twaddle : Her brothers are suddenly concerend they weren't that concerned when they left her alone in that house after her mother died.
The truth is they can't control her and they think she may wreck the gravy train she is riding. She will be alright there are too many people who really care abut her now and are watching over her . Let the media keep doing their stupd job they have to have somehting to say right.Or they will get the sack/LOL.

A lot of what has been quoted by Susan's brothers has been taken out of context. Susan is much stronger than she is given credit for, everything she has achieved she has achieved on her own and I just wish people would live her alone to get on with her wonderful c areer which is flourishing. She has sold 8million cds worldwide, visited many countries, Japan, Denmark, Italy and Spain (receiving standing ovations) and has only been a professional singer for less than a year, more than most of us have achieved. The World loves susan Boyle.

What a shame. Susan will burn herself out by the end of this year. She needs a mentor.
