Film-lovers can explore the studios where the St Trinian's and James Bond movies are made as part of the first London Film Day.

Sneak preview: Emma Thompson in Nanny McPhee and The Big Bang, which will be shown at the end of London Film Day

Pinewood Studios and Ealing Studios are offering free tours to competition winners on Sunday 21 March. The tours will include workshops for children on modelling, animation, storytelling and storyboarding.

London Film Day was set up by the Mayor, Film London and the BFI London Film Festival. It is supported by Universal Pictures as a way of celebrating the capital's role as one of the top three cities in the world for movie production.

The day will culminate with 15 public premieres at cinemas from Harrow to Croydon of the film Nanny McPhee and the Big Bang, three days before the stars including Emma Thompson, Maggie Gyllenhaal and Rhys Ifans attend the world premiere.

Thompson, the daughter of Magic Roundabout creator Eric Thompson and the actress Phyllida Law, said: “Sharing Fantasia' at the Holloway Odeon with my sister, mum and dad is one of the most powerful memories of my childhood. If any of you gets to keep a memory like that from coming to see Nanny McPhee with your family, then it will all have been worth it.”

The film was written by Thompson, made by London production company Working Title and filmed across the city with locations including Somerset House, Trafalgar Square, The Mall and Albert Bridge.

It is hoped that London Film Day will be repeated next year if funding can be found.
