Joseph Fiennes to tackle Jackanory for coffee campaign

Updated 10:05am on 18 Mar 2010

Heart-throb actor Joseph Fiennes is to get fans' pulses racing with literary readings in an adult version of Jackanory.

The Hollywood star - who starred in hit series Flash Forward - has been recruited to read scenes from books such as Jane Austen's Sense And Sensibility.

The private readings have been filmed and can be seen online to promote Carte Noire coffee.

He also dips into works by Charles Dickens, Emile Zola, Nick Hornby, Scott Turow and Marian Keyes.

The idea is to log on and relax over a coffee break.

"With novelists in the family, reading is part of my DNA," he said. "The hard work is done so you can just dip into some of the best bits whenever you have ten minutes to spare.

"I have a great appreciation for a wide range of genres but for me you can't beat the intensity of the classics - and what better way to enjoy them than accompanied by a cup of quality coffee?

The Bafta-winning actor, who drew acclaim for his role in Shakespeare In Love opposite Gwyneth Paltrow, can be seen delivering his readings at www.cartenoire.co.uk.

Actors such as Dominic West and Greg Wise have read for the Carte Noire Readers campaign in the past.
