Updated 09:31am on 10 May 2010

Spanish actress Penelope Cruz, 36, took the top spot in a list of the most beautiful women in the world.

But the Nine star was one of the younger actresses in the Top 10 compiled by clothing firm, Wizard Jeans.

Indeed, three women who are old enough to claim their pensions were voted 'most beautiful.'

French actress Catherine Deneuve, 67, was fifth in the list which was based on the amount of media coverage given to a select group of celebrities.

Dame Helen Mirren, 65, came sixth and 76-year-old Sophia Loren, a grandmother-of-two, was in 10th place.

Sally Allen from Wizard Jeans said all the women in the list possessed natural beauty.

She added: "As someone once said, the difference between pretty and beautiful is that pretty is temporal, whereas beautiful is eternal."

Apart from using a person who is frequently in the news, Just what qualifications does a clothing manufacturer have to judge the most beatiful woman?. This is a pathetic attempt to obtain profit from such a personality.

She is beautiful, but beauty is in the eye of the beholder, and there are many more beautiful women in the world other than her.

Cheryl Chav Cole is not one bit beautiful in her dress or vulgar stage behaviour. Beauty is about the whole package and not just the face. This list is spot on.

I can agree with this.
It's a properlist, that doesn't include tiresome Cheryl Cole or manky Kate Moss.

While I agree with everyone's comments, and it is nice to read a non political story, it has to be said that these 'judges' from Wizard Jeans, whoever they are, really do need to get out more.

Cruz is nice looking without a doubt, but the most beautiful woman in the world ??????????????????????

For the record, it is my girlfriend. She doesn't need to brag about it by appearing in the papers!
