Alex Reid and Chantelle Houghton get engaged on live TV

Evening Standard   Updated 08:40am on 10 Oct 2011

Alex Reid and Chantelle Houghton have got engaged live on TV.

The 36-year-old cage fighter - whose divorce from Katie Price has still not yet been finalised - popped the question to his girlfriend of seven months on Saturday on Irish TV show 'The Saturday Night Show'.

Alex said: "We're in Dublin, I haven't got a ring, but you know what, I'm going to do it. Seriously, nobody tell anyone! Will you marry me?"

Accepting his proposal, Chantelle - who was formerly married to 'Celebrity Big Brother' co-star and Ordinary Boys singer Samuel Preston - embarked on a passionate kiss with the hunk.

Host Brendan O'Connor said: "You saw it here. The whole of Ireland wishes you the best for your future."

Alex - who marriage to Katie Price ended after just 11 months - recently admitted he and Chantelle are hoping to start a family after the 28-year-old beauty discovered she will need IVF (invitro-fertisliation) treatment and must conceive within the next three years if she wants to become a mother.

Alex said: "We have discussed having kids, of course we have. It's fast-forwarded things a bit. It's not the sort of conversation you normally have when you have only been together for four months. We haven't put any pressure on each other."
