Back in the saddle: Jennifer Saunders joins Boxing Day hunt

Comedienne Jennifer Saunders and her teenage daughter joined thousands of hunt supporters in Devon for the traditional Boxing Day meet yesterday.

The Absolutely Fabulous star and 17-year-old Freya looked right at home mounted on their horses while dressed in jodhpurs, blazer, velvet hat and hunting ties.

The pair joined 300 others at the drag hunt with the Mid Devon Hunting Club in Chagford, Devon.

Ron Ware, District Commissioner for the Mid Devon Hunt Pony Club, said Ms Saunders and Freya were regular faces at the club and both were accomplished horse riders.

Mr Ware said: "She comes out every now and again, both her daughters used to come to the pony club."

Local hunt supporter Paul Davey said he believed it was the first time the comedienne had joined the Boxing Day hunt.

He said: "She lives in the area and it was the first time I've seen her ride with the hunt."

Saddle up: Jennifer Saunders and Freya get ready for the hunt

Ms Saunders and husband Ade Edmondson live with their three children in a 400-year-old granite longhouse in Devon, but also have a home in London.

Drag-hunting uses a runner to lay a scent of chemical crystals about 20 minutes before the hunt.

Despite being repulsive to humans, the scent is incredibly attractive to the hounds.

Ms Saunders joins fellow celebrity hunters Prince Charles, Bryan Ferry, Roger Daltrey and Roger Waters.
