Be careful, Penny, your gentleman almost always prefers blondes

He is renowned for his love of tall, leggy blondes, but it seems Rod Stewart's fiancèe is trying to change his mind.

Penny Lancaster turned up for an awards ceremony minus her trademark blonde locks. The 35-year-old, who will marry rocker Rod next year, was sporting a darker, more muted hairdo.

Perhaps she thought is was time to adopt a more "mumsy" look - it is nearly a year since she gave birth to Rod's seventh child, Alastair Wallace.

The couple joined stars including Girls Aloud, Take That and Jude Law at last night's awards ceremony at South Bank's London TV Centre. The ceremony will be screened tonight on ITV1 at 9pm.
