Beckham mania hits New York

Brand Beckham has already conquered Los Angeles - where they know a thing or two about celebrities - and now David Beckham can lay claim to New York.

The England footballer completed his first full 90 minutes for LA Galaxy as they visited the New York Red Bulls - much to the delight of 66,000 ecstatic fans.

A stark contrast to his wife Victoria's rather glum expression last week while watching her husband score his first goal for the team.

She did, however, appear more interested in a family fun day out at an Aquatic Centre in California where she tooks sons Cruz and Brooklyn on a 90-minute boat trip.

With their daddy away, the boys received an education in some of the local sea life.

Back on the east coast, a crowd six times the size of the Red Bulls' usual attendance packed the Giant Stadium to cheer on Beckham as he set up the first two goals - though his side lost 5-4.

However 'Goldenballs' still received a standing ovation for his efforts - worth £128 million.

"Every touch was a piece of magic. David is a fantastic player," Red Bulls coach Bruce Arena told The Sun.

Beckham is obviously making up for lost time since the Beckhams much-hyped move to America last month.

Before last week's goal-scoring game, he had played just 37 minutes in two previous games because of a nagging left ankle injury.

He had even missed two games prompting boos from fans hoping to see the former England captain and world's most famous footballer actually play.

Fans were clearly not disappointed at the weekend.
