Beckham puts one into the net for malaria campaign

David 'Goldenballs' Beckham has put his multi-million pound feet to work for a worthy cause.

The Real Madrid footballer, who will move to LA-team Galaxy in a deal worth over £100m, appears in a commericial to raise money for mosquito nets to help stop the spread of malaria in Africa and prevent the deaths of 3,000 African children a day.

The world famous footballer has lent his image to the 'Malaria No More' campaign, one of the charities that benefited from the Idol Gives Back live fundraising show which raised £30million.

Filmed in atmospheric black and white, the Real Madrid footballer is seen on a football field with four cardboard cut out players standing between him and the goal.

He tells viewers: "Since I've been young I've always practiced free kicks.

"What's important is getting into the zone; I don't change my mind. If I take a good enough free kick the goalkeeper won't stop it."

Unfortunately Beckham's aim doesn't seem too good. And in a comical twist, he places the football between the goalposts but hits a passing groundsman on the head, knocking him out.

At the end of the commercial a series of messages flash onto the screen, including one which says: "We need more nets."

The commercial appeared during a commercial break on American Idol on the Fox TV channel in the US.
