Alarming: Ben Fogle chased away Burglars
The 36-year-old broke the news of the alarming encounter via his Twitter page yesterday afternoon, saying: "Cor. Just chased four burglars from my garden while they were trying to break in to my house. Police everywhere."
Fogle became a father for the first time on Thursday to his son Ludovic, who according to the Twitter page was due to come home from hospital yesterday when the attempted break-in took place.
A spokeswoman for the Metropolitan Police said that officers were called to Kensington, west London, shortly after midday.
They are investigating whether the would-be burglary is linked to an assault that took place outside Latimer Road Underground station minutes before.
One man was arrested on suspicion of assault and is in custody.
Fogle told the Daily Telegraph: "While I was in the kitchen these four blokes vaulted over the back fence and into the garden. They started hammering on the door trying to get in.
"I got very confused because I thought they might be builders, but I eventually realised what they were trying to do.
"I think they got a bit of a shock when I opened the door. I'm not going to claim I scared them off - they probably thought 'it's only Ben Fogle, he might cook us some food' - but I chased them away with the help of the dog.
"It's shaken me up a little, especially with my wife and son coming home."
