Better the devil you know: Kylie's flashback to 80s glory

It was the look that catapulted her from girl-next-door to sexy superstar – and now Kylie Minogue has recreated it more than eighteen years on.

Sporting bleach blond hair and a sparkling, embellished dress during a day out in New York, the pop singer's outfit was a stunning flashback to her heady days with former lover, the late INXS star Michael Hutchence.

Minogue first tried out the look in 1989 after shedding her dowdy Neighbours image, and at 38, proved she can still turn heads in a mini.

The outfit is in keeping with the style chameleon's current trend towards bold, colourful fashion.

While she may be under a gloomy shadow when it comes to romance, her wardrobe couldn't be brighter.

Minogue has consistently stepped out in a rainbow of numbers since her heart-breaking split from long-term love Olivier Martinez, and continued the trend right though the controversy surrounding her relationship with married director Alexander Dahm.

The star - who is currently working on a new album, the first since her breast cancer battle - countered rumours of an affair with Dahm, whose wife is 8 months pregnant.

She said: "I have never been unfaithful to a partner and would find it completely immoral to be involved with a married man."

Despite her troubled private life, the perennial showgirl's fashion statements make one thing clear - Miss Minogue can't help but look on the bright side.
