Big Brother twins launch pop career with Barbie Girl cover

Big Brother twins Sam and Amanda Marchant have recorded their music debut - a cover of Aqua's 1990s hit Barbie Girl.

The 19-year-old twins, from Newcastle-under-Lyme, who were joint runners up in the show, said: "It's a dream come true for us to record our favourite song of all time.

In synch: the twins film the clip to their upcoming single

The pair have already started on the single's film clip, which sees the girls in pink dresses in a pink set - it is after all, their favourite colour.

They added in a statement: "We're just so excited about everything and keep having to pinch ourselves to make sure it's all real."

A spokesman for record company SonyBMG, which has signed up the twins, said: "It is a measure of how much viewers identified with the twins that they were the only Big Brother contestants never to have been nominated for a single eviction.

"They are also the only Big Brother contestants ever to have signed with a major record company. Superstardom beckons for them."

The eighth series of Big Brother was won by Brian Belo, a 20-year-old data clerk from Essex, who famously told the housemates he had no idea who Shakespeare was.

The single will hit the shops in October.
