Sleeping with Angelina Jolie is like '****ing the couch', the 49-year-old actor said.

His wincingly candid proclamation is likely to upset the Tomb Raider star's legion of fans, who last year voted her the world's sexiest woman.

'Sex doesn't have to be with a model to be good,' said Thornton, who divorced Jolie in 2002 after three years of marriage.

Although he stopped short of mentioning Jolie by name, he told Esquire magazine: 'Sometimes with the model, the actress or the sexiest person in the world, it may literally be like ****ing the couch.'

For her part, Jolie, 30, could never be accused of prudishness.

She has boasted about her love of lesbian sex and said the man who meets her sadomasochistic needs will be 'the one'.

Of course, the best person to ask may be Brad Pitt. Jolie has hinted that she and the 40-year-old actor had a fling while making their new film, Mr and Mrs Smith.
